STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION

Note


  • Do not replace the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).

  • Do not rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly without the steering wheel with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).

  • Ensure that the steering wheel is installed and aligned straight when inspecting the steering sensor.


  1. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Heater)


    1. Install the steering wheel heater control assembly to the lower steering wheel boss cover with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      0.8 N*m  { 9 kgf*cm, 7 in.*lbf }

    2. Engage the clamp.

  2. INSTALL LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER


    1. Engage the 4 claws to install the lower steering wheel boss cover to the steering wheel sub-assembly.

      Note

      Do not allow the steering heater wire harness to be caught between the lower steering wheel boss cover and the steering wheel sub-assembly.

    2. w/ Steering Heater:


      1. Remove the release paper from new double-sided tape and install the steering heater harness to the lower steering wheel boss cover.

        Note

        Do not touch the adhesive surface of the double-sided tape.

      2. Connect the connector to the steering wheel heater control assembly.

  3. INSTALL STEERING SHAKE DAMPER


    1. Install the steering shake damper to the steering wheel sub-assembly with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      2.4 N*m  { 24 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf }

  4. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL SWITCH WIRE


    1. Install the cruise control switch wire.

  5. INSTALL CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH


    1. Connect the connector.

    2. Install the cruise control main switch with the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      2.4 N*m  { 24 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf }

  6. INSTALL STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Engage the 2 claws and 2 pins to install the steering pad switch assembly to the steering wheel sub-assembly.

    2. Install the 2 screws.

      Torque:
      2.4 N*m  { 24 kgf*cm, 21 in.*lbf }

    3. Connect the steering pad switch connector to the spiral cable.

  7. ALIGN FRONT WHEELS FACING STRAIGHT AHEAD

  8. INSPECT AND ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE WITH SENSOR SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Note

    Do not adjust the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly with the battery connected and the engine switch on (IG).


    1. Check that the engine switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

    3. Check if the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is centered.

      Tech Tips

      When the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is centered, the alignment marks are aligned and the colored part or flat cable shown in the illustration is visible.

    4. If the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly is not centered, center it.

      Note


      • When rotating the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly, make sure to push on the interlock indicated in the illustration to release the interlock mechanism.

      • Do not turn the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly using the airbag wire harness.

        While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly counterclockwise slowly by hand until it stops.

        While pushing on the interlock indicated in the illustration, rotate the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly clockwise approximately 2.5 turns to the position where the colored part or flat cable is visible.

        Tech Tips

        The spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly will rotate approximately 2.5 turns to both the left and right from the center.

  9. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY

      Install the steering wheel assembly aligning the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft.

    2. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut.

      Torque:
      50 N*m  { 510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf }

    3. w/ Steering Heater:


      1. A01G5HW

        Connect the connector.

    4. Connect the connectors to the spiral cable sub-assembly.
