THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM SYSTEM DESCRIPTION


  1. OUTLINE OF THEFT DETERRENT SYSTEM


    • The theft deterrent system can be set by locking the doors using the following operation:


      • Entry lock operation

      • Wireless lock operation

      • Key-linked lock operation

      • By opening and closing the doors

    • The alarm function will be activated when someone attempts to forcibly unlock any of the doors or open any of the doors, engine hood and luggage compartment door while the system is in the armed state.

    • In the alarm sounding state, the hazard warning lights blink. At the same time, the system sounds the vehicle horns and theft warning siren*1 or security horn*2 to deter break-in and theft as well as to warn people around the vehicle.

    • The theft deterrent system can be cancelled by unlocking the doors using the following operation:


      • Entry lock operation

      • Wireless lock operation

      • Key-linked lock operation

    • The theft deterrent system has the active arming mode. There are 4 states; a disarmed state, an arming preparation state, an armed state and an alarm sounding state.


    1. Disarmed state:


      • The alarm function is not operating.

      • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    2. Arming preparation state:


      • The time until the system goes into the armed state.

      • The theft deterrent system is not operating.

    3. Armed state:


      • The theft deterrent system is operating.

    4. Alarm sounding state:

  • ACTIVE ARMING MODE

    Tech Tips

    Active arming mode starts the alarm control immediately after the doors are locked.

      In the disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met:


      • With all doors closed and engine hood closed, all doors are locked by wireless operation or the smart entry and start system.

      • The luggage compartment door is opened when the luggage compartment door is closed.

      • Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) detects movement within vehicle.*3

      • Any door is opened when all doors are closed.

      • Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      • When 5 seconds or more have elapsed after the power switch is pressed, the power source mode is changed to on (IG) without pressing the power switch.

      • The engine hood is opened.

      • The luggage compartment door is opened.

      • Any door is unlocked.

      • Any door is opened.

      Note

      Ultrasonic waves are used to detect intrusion. Ultrasonic waves do not penetrate steel or glass. When any of the door glasses or sliding roof is left open, ultrasonic waves may escape. This may result in the detection of people in the surroundings, leaves or insects entering the vehicle, strong wind or other ultrasonic wave sources in the environment when the vehicle is parked with the door glasses or sliding roof open. When parking the vehicle with the door glasses or the sliding roof open for ventilation, turn off the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) using the Intrusion Sensor cancel switch.*3

      • The power switch is turned on (READY).

      • All doors are unlocked by wireless operation, the smart entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*4.

      • The power switch is turned on (ACC or IG) within 5 seconds after the power switch is pushed.
      Condition [6]

      • After approx. 27.5 seconds, alarm stops and 5 seconds later the system returns to the armed state.

      • The luggage compartment door is opened by wireless operation, the smart entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*4.

      • The luggage compartment door is closed when the engine hood is closed.

      • The engine hood is closed when the luggage compartment door is closed.

      • Any door is unlocked when all doors are locked.

      • Any door is opened.

      In the disarmed state 1, when the power switch is off, the system state is switched if the following condition is met:


      • With all doors closed and the engine hood open, all doors are locked by wireless operation, the smart entry and start system or key linked power door lock operation*4.

  • FORCED DOOR LOCK CONTROL


    1. The forced door lock control prevents the vehicle from being tampered with. Immediately after a door is unlocked (alarm starts), all doors are forced to lock by a forced door lock signal.


      1. Conditions that force the doors to lock:


        • The theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state of active arming mode.

        • Any door is unlocked.

  • OPERATION OF INTRUSION SENSOR (THEFT WARNING ULTRASONIC SENSOR) (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch)

    Note

    Ultrasonic waves are used to detect intrusion. Ultrasonic waves do not penetrate steel or glass. When any of the door glasses or sliding roof is left open, ultrasonic waves may escape. This may result in the detection of people in the surroundings, leaves or insects entering the vehicle, strong wind or other ultrasonic wave sources in the environment when the vehicle is parked with the door glasses or sliding roof open. When parking the vehicle with the door glasses or the sliding roof open for ventilation, turn off the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) using the Intrusion Sensor cancel switch.


    1. An Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) is provided in the map light assembly located in the front of the vehicle interior.

    2. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) activates the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input from the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) during the armed state, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.*1

    3. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) activates the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) when the system changes from the disarmed state to the armed preparation state. If an intrusion detection signal is input after the glass breakage signal is input from the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) during the armed state, the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) changes to the alarm state in order to output an alarm.*2

    4. When the system is in the disarmed state, the function of the Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) can be disabled by pressing the Intrusion Sensor cancel switch.

    5. The Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) may erroneously detect intrusion in the following states:


      1. Persons or pets are in the vehicle.

      2. The vehicle is parked in a place where extreme vibrations or noises occur, such as in a parking garage.

      3. Ice or snow is removed from the vehicle, causing the vehicle to receive repeated impacts or vibrations.

      4. The wind or something similar causes an externally mounted reflectively coated windshield cover to move.

      5. The Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) may react to a hanger or other objects hanging in the cabin when they drop or swing.

      6. The system changes to the armed state even when any of the windows or sunroof is open. The Intrusion Sensor (theft warning ultrasonic sensor) may react to objects moving outside the vehicle when any of the windows or sunroof is open.

      7. The vehicle is inside an automatic or high-pressure car wash.

      8. The vehicle experiences impacts, such as hail, lightning strikes and other kinds of repeated impacts or vibrations.

  • THEFT WARNING SIREN (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch)


    1. The theft warning siren has an internal battery. If power to the theft warning siren is interrupted or any of the communication lines are open, the theft warning siren detects it and sounds the alarm using the internal battery.

    2. The theft warning siren has the following alarm controls: normal alarm control and open circuit alarm control. Under normal alarm control, the alarm sounds based on instructions from the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) assembly whereas under open circuit alarm control, the theft warning siren judges current security conditions and sounds the alarm by itself.


      1. Normal alarm control

        The theft warning siren sounds when the theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state and does not sound when the system is not in the alarm sounding state.

        Tech Tips

        If communication interruption between the theft warning siren and main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) assembly continues for 70 seconds or more while the theft deterrent system is in the alarm sounding state, the theft warning siren stops sounding.

        Open circuit alarm control

        The theft warning siren changes between the disarmed state and armed state in accordance with the theft deterrent system change between the disarmed state and armed state. If +B, GND or the communication line is open while the theft warning siren is in the armed state, the theft warning siren sounds.

        During the open circuit alarm sounding state, the theft warning siren sounds intermittently for 27.5 seconds and then stops for 5 seconds and this pattern repeats a maximum of 9 times.

        The intermittent sound will stop when either condition is met:

        1. The theft warning siren changes to the disarmed state.

        2. The open circuit is returned to normal.

  • SECURITY INDICATOR OUTPUT


    1. The main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU) outputs a signal to turn on the security indicator light, according to the state of the theft deterrent system. However, some of the actual lighting conditions of the security indicator light are different from the output signals of the main body ECU (multiplex network body ECU).

      Tech Tips

      When the immobiliser system is set, the security indicator light blinks during both the disarmed state and the armed state due to output signals from the immobiliser system.

  • CHECK INTRUSION SENSOR (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch) (w/o Door Ajar Warning Buzzer Function)

    Note

    Perform the Intrusion Sensor operation inspection with the GTS disconnected.


    1. Check that the engine hood is closed.

    2. Check the Intrusion Sensor operation (customize setting is "N+Sound").


      1. Turn the power switch off.

      2. Lock all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light illuminates (armed preparation state) (all windows need to be closed).

      3. Wait 30 seconds after locking all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light blinks (armed state). Then, make a loud sound by hitting metal objects together (jangle a bunch of keys, etc.) near the Intrusion Sensor in the vehicle and check that the theft deterrent system alarm operates due to movement inside the vehicle.

        Tech Tips

        If the electrical key transmitter is within the entry exterior area at this time, the alarm does not operate due to the Intrusion Sensor.

      4. Perform an unlock operation using the wireless or entry operation to stop the alarm.

    3. Check the Intrusion Sensor operation (customize setting is "Normal" or "Low").


      1. Turn the power switch off.

      2. Lock all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light illuminates (armed preparation state) (all windows need to be opened).

      3. Wait 30 seconds after locking all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light blinks (armed state). Then, check that the theft deterrent system alarm operates due to movement inside the vehicle.

        Tech Tips

        If the electrical key transmitter is within the entry exterior area at this time, the alarm does not operate due to the Intrusion Sensor.

      4. Perform an unlock operation using the wireless or entry operation to stop the alarm.

  • CHECK INTRUSION SENSOR (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch) (w/ Door Ajar Warning Buzzer Function)


    1. Check the Intrusion Sensor operation.


      1. Turn the power switch off.

      2. Lock all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light illuminates (armed preparation state) (all windows need to be opened).

      3. Wait 30 seconds after locking all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light blinks (armed state). Then, check that the theft deterrent system alarm operates due to movement inside the vehicle.

        Tech Tips

        If the electrical key transmitter is within the entry exterior area at this time, the alarm does not operate due to the Intrusion Sensor.

      4. Perform an unlock operation using the wireless or entry operation to stop the alarm.

  • CHECK INTRUSION SENSOR OFF SWITCH (w/ Intrusion Sensor Cancel Switch) (w/o Door Ajar Warning Buzzer Function)

    Note

    Perform the Intrusion Sensor operation inspection with the GTS disconnected.


    1. Check the Intrusion Sensor OFF switch operation (Customize setting is "N+Sound").


      1. Turn the power switch off.

      2. Press the Intrusion Sensor OFF switch and check that "Theft sensor OFF" is displayed on the combination meter.

      3. Lock all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light illuminates (armed preparation state).

      4. Approximately 30 seconds after locking all the doors via wireless operation or smart operation, check that the security indicator light changes to blinking (armed state). Also, after making a metal-on-metal striking sound (such as by shaking keys) near the sensor, check that the auto alarm warning does not operate according to movement in the cabin. At this time, do not bring the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly close to the smart exterior area.

        Tech Tips

        Even if the Intrusion Sensor is off, the theft deterrent system is in the armed state. Therefore, if any of the doors is manually unlocked, the alarm operates.

    2. Check the Intrusion Sensor OFF switch operation (Customize setting is "Normal" or "Low").


      1. Turn the power switch off.

      2. Press the Intrusion Sensor OFF switch and check that "Theft sensor OFF" is displayed on the combination meter.

      3. Lock all the doors using the wireless door lock or entry door lock function and check that the security indicator light illuminates (armed preparation state).

      4. Approximately 30 seconds after locking all the doors via wireless operation or smart operation, check that the security indicator light changes to blinking (armed state) and the auto alarm does not operate according to movement in the cabin. At this time, do not bring the electrical key transmitter sub-assembly close to the smart exterior area.
