СИСТЕМА ECD, Diagnostic DTC:P1438

DTC Code DTC Name
P1438 Diesel Particulate Filter Overload

DESCRIPTION

The ECM detects the amount of deposits in the DPF catalyst in two stages.

This DTC is stored when the amount of deposits exceeds the threshold of the first stage.

When the vehicle is driven further and the amount of deposits exceeds the threshold of the second stage, the MIL illuminates.

Tech Tips

For more information on the diesel particulate filter (DPF) catalyst regeneration control, refer to System Description Click here.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P1438

Differential pressure (exhaust gas pressure) exceeding threshold detected for 20 seconds or more

(3 trip detection logic)

Note

If the amount of soot is too large, the DPF catalytic converter may overheat during operation. Therefore, this DTC stops operation of the DPF catalytic converter when the amount of soot exceeds a predetermined amount.

  • Driven short distance

  • Oil level

  • Differential pressure sensor (exhaust gas pressure sensor)

  • Exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (DPF catalytic converter)

  • ECM

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

  • When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

  • After replacing the DPF catalyst, the ECM needs initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.
