СИСТЕМА ECD, Diagnostic DTC:P0340, P0344

DTC Code DTC Name
P0340 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Bank 1 or Single Sensor
P0344 Camshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit Intermittent Bank 1 or Single Sensor

DESCRIPTION

The camshaft position sensor is installed on the cylinder head cover. The camshaft has a timing rotor for the camshaft position sensor. When the camshaft rotates, the tooth on the camshaft passes through the camshaft position sensor. The generated voltage in the sensor acts as a signal. The ECM locates each cylinder position based on the combination of this signal and crankshaft position sensor output.

DTC No. DTC Detection Condition Trouble Area
P0340

No camshaft position sensor signal to ECM

(3 trip detection logic)

  • Open or short in camshaft position sensor circuit

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

Note

When replacing the ECM, the ECM needs Registration and Initialization Click here.

Tech Tips

  • When the ECM must be replaced, before replacing the ECM, perform the "Learning Values Save" function using the GTS. Then after installing the new ECM, perform all of the initialization/registrations for the "Learning Values Write" function by following the instructions shown on the GTS display.

  • Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR - ECM)

    1. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C98-1 (G1) - C84-68 (G+) Always Below 1 Ω
      C98-2 (G-) - C84-115 (G-) Always Below 1 Ω
      C98-1 (G1) or C84-68 (G+) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      C98-2 (G-) or C84-115 (G-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG
    OK
  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE)

    1. Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    3. Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C98-3 (VG) - Body ground Ignition switch ON 11 to 14 V

    NG
    OK
  3. CHECK SENSOR INSTALLATION (CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR)

    1. Check the camshaft position sensor installation.

      OK
      Sensor is installed correctly.

    NG
    OK
  4. INSPECT CAMSHAFT ASSEMBLY (TIMING ROTOR)

    1. Inspect the timing rotor of the camshaft assembly.

      OK
Camshaft timing rotor does not have any cracks or deformation.

    NG
    OK
