Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using needle-nose pliers, separate the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

  2. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the rear No. 2 drive shaft inboard joint boot clamp LH.

  3. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT BOOT LH


    1. Separate the rear drive shaft inboard joint boot LH from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

  4. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH

    *a Matchmark

    1. Remove any old grease from the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH.

    2. Put matchmarks on the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH and rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    3. Remove the rear drive shaft inboard joint assembly LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the rear drive shaft snap ring LH from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly and tripod joint.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    6. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the tripod joint from the rear drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note


      • Do not tap the rollers.

      • Do not drop the tripod joint.

    7. Remove the rear drive shaft inboard joint boot LH.

  5. SEPARATE REAR NO. 2 DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using a screwdriver, separate the rear No. 2 drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

  6. SEPARATE REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    1. Using pliers, separate the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

  7. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT LH


    1. Remove the rear drive shaft outboard joint boot LH from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    2. Remove any old grease from the rear drive shaft outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

  8. REMOVE REAR DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

    Tech Tips

    Only perform the following procedure if the rear drive shaft dust cover LH is deformed.


    1. Using SST and a press, remove the rear drive shaft dust cover LH.

      Note


      • Be careful not to drop the front drive inboard joint assembly.

      • Do not overtighten SST.
