PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK TRANSFER OIL

    1. Stop the vehicle on a level surface.

    2. A001WIR

Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, remove the transfer filler plug and gasket.

      *a 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.)

Check that the oil level is between 0 to 5.0 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) from the bottom lip of the transfer filler plug hole.

If the result is not as specified, add transfer oil.

      Oil grade
Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent
      Viscosity
      SAE 75W-85

      Note

      • When adding oil, pour it slowly.

      • Too much or too little oil will lead to transfer problems.

    4. If the oil level is low, refill oil after checking for oil leaks.

    5. A001Y5IC02
*a 10 mm Straight Hexagon Wrench
*b 12 mm Hexagon Socket Wrench
      *c 10 x 12 mm Long Offset Wrench
      *d Fulcrum Length

Using a 10 mm straight hexagon wrench, 12 mm hexagon socket wrench and 10 x 12 mm long offset wrench, install a new gasket into the transfer filler plug and then install the transfer filler plug.

      Torque:
      Specified tightening torque
      39 N*m  { 398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      • This torque value is effective when offset wrench is straight to a torque wrench.

      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

      • When using a long offset wrench (fulcrum length of 189.75 mm (7.47 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 255 mm (10.04 in.)): 22.4 N*m (228 kgf*cm, 17 ft.*lbf)
