      Tech Tips

Pay close attention to the change in resistance to distinguish clutch pedal free play while performing the inspection.

      1. Depress the clutch pedal until clutch resistance begins to be felt.

        Clutch pedal free play
        4.2 to 10.6 mm (0.165 to 0.417 in.)

      Check the release point.

      1. Apply the parking brake and install wheel chocks.

      2. Start the engine and run it at idle.

      3. Without depressing the clutch pedal, slowly move the shift lever into reverse until the gears contact each other.

      4. Gradually depress the clutch pedal and measure the stroke distance from the point that the gear noise stops (release point) up to the full stroke end position.

        Standard distance
25 mm (0.984 in.) or more (from clutch pedal stroke end position to release point)
        Clutch pedal stroke (Reference)
        132.3 to 142.3 mm (5.21 to 5.60 in.)

If the distance is not as specified, perform the following procedure:

        • Check the clutch pedal height.

        • Check the push rod play and clutch pedal free play.

        • Bleed the clutch line.

        • Check the clutch cover and the clutch disc.
