LUBRICATION SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK ENGINE OIL LEVEL

    1. Warm up and stop the engine, then wait for 5 minutes.

    2. Check that the engine oil level is between the low level and full level marks on the engine oil level dipstick.

If the level is low, check for engine oil leaks and add engine oil to the full level mark.

      Note

Do not add engine oil to above the full level mark.

  2. CHECK ENGINE OIL QUALITY

    1. Check the engine oil for deterioration, water intrusion, discoloration or thinning.

If the quality is visibly poor, replace the engine oil and oil filter element.

  3. CHECK OIL PRESSURE

    CAUTION:

    • A005QA2

When working near the engine room while the engine has started or the power source mode is ignition switch to ON (IG), do not touch the fan and generator V belt or rotating components such as the fan, etc.

    • Touching the fan and generator V belt or rotating components such as the fan, etc. could result in your hand or clothing getting caught and pulled in.

    • A005OU6C11
      *a High temperature areas

Do not touch the engine or exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly when they are hot.

    • Touching the engine or exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly when they are hot could result in burns.

    • A005QEF

To prevent burns, do not remove the engine oil pressure switch assembly while the engine is hot.

    • Removing the engine oil pressure switch assembly while the engine is hot could result in burns caused by contact with hot engine oil.

    Note

Clean the hose and adapter of the oil pressure gauge before and after measurement.

    1. Remove the engine oil pressure switch assembly.

      CAUTION:

Make sure the engine is cold when removing the engine oil pressure switch assembly to prevent burns caused by hot engine oil.

    2. A005OBG

Install an oil pressure gauge with the adapter.

    3. Warm up the engine.

      Tech Tips

After warming up the engine, the engine coolant temperature is 75 to 100°C (167 to 212°F).

    4. Check the engine oil pressure.

      Standard Oil Pressure
      Engine Condition Oil Pressure
      Idling

      25 kPa (0.3 kgf/cm2, 3.6 psi) or higher

      3000 rpm

      150 to 400 kPa (1.5 to 4.1 kgf/cm2, 22 to 58 psi)

If the result is not as specified, check the quality of the engine oil and check the oil paths for clogging. Repair or replace if necessary. If the engine oil pressure is still not as specified, check the oil pump assembly.

    5. Remove the oil pressure gauge with the adapter.

      CAUTION:

Make sure the engine is cold when removing the oil pressure gauge to prevent burns caused by hot engine oil.

    6. Install the engine oil pressure switch assembly.
