CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE VALVE LIFT CONTROLLER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE VALVE LIFT CONTROLLER ASSEMBLY


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine and warm it up.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Activate the VALVEMATIC(ENG ON).


      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test

      Activate the VALVEMATIC(ENG ON)

    5. Maintain an engine speed of 3000 rpm with the shift lever in P or N and the vehicle stationary.

      Activate the VALVEMATIC(ENG ON) Operates VALVEMATIC system to set valve lift to maximum or minimum High/Low/OFF

      Perform this test when the following conditions are met:


      • Vehicle is stopped.

      • Engine is idling.

      • Engine coolant temperature is 40°C (104°F) or higher.

      • Shift lever is in P or N.

      • VVT system is normal.

      Change in Manifold Absolute Pressure during the Active Test
      GTS Operation Result
      High

      • VALVEMATIC Current Angle: 260 deg(CA)

      • Manifold Absolute Pressure: 25 to 40 kPa (188 to 300 mmHg)
      Low

      • VALVEMATIC Current Angle: 106 deg(CA)

      • Manifold Absolute Pressure: 35 to 65 kPa (263 to 488 mmHg)

      Tech Tips


      • If the vehicle is driven while there is a malfunction in the VALVEMATIC system and the valve lift amount is fixed at the minimum, the vehicle speed cannot exceed 30 to 60 km/h (19 to 37 mph).

      • If the intake valve advance angle is within the VALVEMATIC operation prohibition range, depending on the operating state of the VVT system, the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC(ENG ON)" is prohibited. If the advance angle cannot be detected due to a malfunction in the VVT system, the Active Test "Activate the VALVEMATIC(ENG ON)" is prohibited.
