CAMSHAFT OIL CONTROL VALVE ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Turn the A/C switch on.

    5. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake side).

      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank1).

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test
        Tester Display
        Control the VVT Linear (Bank1)
      2. Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly using the GTS.

        Standard Condition
        GTS Operation Specified Condition
        0% Normal engine speed
100% Engine idles roughly or stalls

        Tech Tips

        • If the result is not as specified, allow the engine to cool (engine coolant temperature of 50°C (122°F) or less) and perform the Active Test again.

        • DTCs related to the VVT system may be stored due to Active Test operation, but this does not indicate a malfunction.

If the operation is not as specified, check the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, wire harness and ECM.

    6. Inspect the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for exhaust side).

      1. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1).

Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Active Test
        Tester Display
Control the VVT Exhaust Linear (Bank1)
