DIFFERENTIAL OIL REPLACEMENT

PROCEDURE


  1. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. A001WOG

      Stop the vehicle on a level surface.

    2. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential filler plug and gasket.

    3. A001X2B

      Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, remove the rear differential drain plug and gasket.

    4. Drain the differential oil.

    5. Install a new gasket and the rear differential drain plug.

      Torque:
      39 N*m  { 398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }
  2. ADD DIFFERENTIAL OIL


    1. A001UD4C11
      *a 0 to 5mm

      Add Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent.

    2. Pour oil into the rear differential carrier assembly so that the oil level is within 0 to 5 mm (0 to 0.196 in.) of the bottom of the filler plug opening.

      Note

      Excessively large or small quantities of oil may cause problems.

      Recommended viscosity
      SAE 75W-85
      Standard oil grade
      Toyota Genuine Differential gear oil LT SAE 75W-85 API GL-5 or equivalent
      Standard differential oil capacity
      0.45 to 0.55 liters (0.48 to 0.58 US qts., 0.40 to 0.48 Imp. qts.)
    3. A001WOG

      Wait approximately 5 minutes and check that the oil level has not changed.

    4. Using a 10 mm socket hexagon wrench, install a new gasket and the rear differential filler plug.

      Torque:
      39 N*m  { 398 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf }
    5. Drive the vehicle and check the oil level again. If necessary, add differential oil.
