ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER SYSTEM PRECAUTION

  1. PRECAUTION FOR DISCONNECTING CABLE FROM NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL

    Note

When disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, initialize the following system(s) after the cable is reconnected:

  2. PRECAUTIONS FOR INSPECTING ELECTRONIC SHIFT LEVER SYSTEM

    1. When the power switch is turned off, the hybrid vehicle control ECU will not shut down immediately. Therefore, when a fail-safe function is operating, if the power switch is operated repeatedly within a short period of time, the fail-safe function will not be canceled. After turning the power switch off, wait approximately 1 minute or more for the hybrid vehicle control ECU to completely shut down before connecting the GTS, opening/closing a door or operating a pedal.

    2. Do not change the shift state between park and any other shift state repeatedly within a short period of time, otherwise the shift state will not be able to be changed from park (P) for a certain period of time to protect the system. If the system protection function operates, wait approximately 20 seconds before attempting to change the shift state.

    3. If the shift state cannot be changed from park (P), the auxiliary battery voltage may be low.

    4. If the electronic shift lever system has been damaged due to a flood, etc., the shift state will not be able to be changed to or from park (P).

When the shift state cannot be changed from park (P) to any other state, the parking lock will be engaged. Therefore, the vehicle will not be able to be towed using a cable or chain.

Tow the vehicle with the front wheels off the ground or using a flatbed truck.

    5. If the electronic shift lever system is damaged, the power switch may be turned to on (ACC) when attempting to turn the power switch off. In this case, applying the parking brake may turn off the power switch.

    6. Do not turn the power switch off while towing the vehicle with all 4 wheels on the ground. Turning the power switch off may result in engagement of the parking lock, resulting in a hazardous situation or accident.

    7. If a fail-safe function is operating due to a malfunction or the auxiliary battery voltage becoming low, a warning message may be continuously displayed on the multi-information display until the shift state is changed from park (P) to any other state, even if the malfunction has been repaired or the auxiliary battery has been charged.

  3. CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS

    1. The CAN communication system is used for communication between the hybrid vehicle control ECU, the certification ECU and other ECUs. If there are any problems in the CAN communication lines, corresponding DTCs are output.

    2. If any CAN communication DTCs are output, repair the malfunction and troubleshoot the electronic shift lever system after communication becomes normal.

  4. LIN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM PRECAUTIONS

    1. The LIN communication system is used for communication between the hybrid vehicle control ECU, the certification ECU and other ECUs. If there are any problems in the LIN communication lines, park (P) cannot be disengaged.

    2. If any LIN communication DTCs are output, repair the malfunction and troubleshoot the electronic shift lever system after communication becomes normal.

  5. PRECAUTION FOR REPLACING HYBRID VEHICLE CONTROL ECU

    Note

Before replacing the hybrid vehicle control ECU, refer to Service Bulletin.
