BACK WINDOW GLASS INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE


  1. CLEAN BACK WINDOW GLASS


    1. A01MIZC

      When reusing the back window glass:


      • Using a scraper, remove any remaining back window glass stopper, back window outside moulding, back window glass adhesive dam and adhesive residue from the windshield glass.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the back window glass.

    2. Clean the outer circumference of the back window glass with a non-residue solvent.

      Note

      Even if using a new back window glass, clean the back window glass with a non-residue solvent.

  2. INSTALL NO. 1 BACK WINDOW GLASS STOPPER

      Install 2 new No. 1 back window glass stoppers to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      Only 2-piece type back window glass stoppers are provided as supply parts. Use 2-piece type No. 1 back window glass stoppers as replacements even if 1-piece type No. 1 back window glass stoppers were originally installed.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 BACK WINDOW GLASS STOPPER


    1. Coat the application area of 2 new No. 2 back window glass stoppers with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. Install the 2 No. 2 back window glass stoppers to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Install the No. 2 back window glass stopper after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

      • Make sure to install the No. 2 back window glass stopper in the correct orientation.

      Tech Tips

      Only 2-piece type back window glass stoppers are provided as supply parts. Use 2-piece type No. 1 back window glass stoppers as replacements even if 1-piece type No. 1 back window glass stoppers were originally installed.

  4. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Coat the application area of back window glass adhesive dam with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. When removing the peeling paper of a new back window glass adhesive dam, make sure that it does not contact the adhesive surface.

      Note

      Install the back window glass adhesive dam after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

    3. Install the back window glass adhesive dam to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

  5. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING

    Note

    Do not allow oil, dust, etc. to adhere to the silicone portion applied to the back window moulding outside.

      Coat the application area of back window outside moulding with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. When removing the peeling paper of a new back window outside moulding, make sure that it does not contact the adhesive surface.

    3. Install the new back window outside moulding to the back window glass as shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the back window outside moulding after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

  6. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS

    Note

    Do not allow oil, dust, etc. to adhere to the silicone portion applied to the back window moulding outside.


    1. Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.


      1. A01MGJD

        On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        Note

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

    2. Back window glass preliminary installation procedures.


      1. Install the suction cups to the back window glass.

        Engage the No. 1 back window glass stopper and No. 2 back window glass stopper to temporarily place the back window glass onto the vehicle body and set it so that the gap between the body and the upper portion and sides of the back window glass is even.

        Note

        Securely engage the No. 1 windshield glass stopper and the No. 2 windshield glass stopper.

        *a Matchmark

        When using a new back window glass:


        • Place matchmarks on the back window glass sub-assembly and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.

      4. When reusing the windshield glass:


        • Check the position of the matchmarks and make adjustments.

      5. Remove the back window glass.

    3. Apply Primer M to the exposed part of the vehicle body.

      Note


      • Do not apply too much Primer M.

      • Do not coat the adhesive with primer M.

      • Be careful when applying primer to the panel joints and spot welds.

    4. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of adhesive with primer G as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Do not put primer in the area of the antenna installation.

      • Do not apply too much Primer M.

      Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

    6. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.

    7. Apply a bead of adhesive to the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Apply the adhesive after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min.).

    8. The antenna installation location (contact area) of the back window glass is covered with protective tape, so fully remove the protective tape. (when using a new back window glass)

      Note

      When installing the back window glass, do not allow adhesive to adhere to the antenna installation location.

    9. Install the back window glass.

        Using suction cups, engage the No. 1 back window glass stopper and No. 2 back window glass stopper, position the back window glass so that the matchmarks are aligned and install the back window glass.

        Note


        • Install the back window glass after Primer M on the vehicle body has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

        • Check that the No.1 windshield glass stopper and No.2 windshield glass stopper are engaged to the vehicle body correctly.

      2. Lightly press the front surface of the windshield glass sub-assembly to ensure that the windshield glass is securely fit to the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22.0 lbf) or more.

      3. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

        Note

        Apply adhesive to the glass rim.

      4. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

      5. Hold the back window glass in place securely with protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.

        Tech Tips

        Follow the instructions for each adhesive manufacturer or the corresponding owner's manual for the minimum amount of time necessary prior to driving the vehicle.

    10. Connect the connector.

  7. INSPECT FOR LEAK AND REPAIR


    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.

    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.

    3. Remove the protective tape.
