WINDSHIELD GLASS INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE


  1. CLEAN WINDSHIELD GLASS


    1. When reusing the windshield glass:


      1. A01MIZC

        Using a scraper, remove any remaining windshield glass stopper, windshield outside moulding, window glass adhesive dam, windshield glass retainer and adhesive residue from the windshield glass.

        Note

        Be careful not to damage the windshield glass.

    2. Clean the outer circumference of the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

      Note

      Even if using a new windshield glass, clean the windshield glass with a non-residue solvent.

  2. INSTALL NO. 1 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER

      Install 2 new No. 1 windshield glass stoppers to the vehicle body as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      Only 2-piece type windshield glass stoppers are provided as supply parts. Use 2-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers as replacements even if 1-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers were originally installed.

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 WINDSHIELD GLASS STOPPER


    1. Coat the application area of 2 new No. 2 windshield glass stoppers with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. Install the 2 No. 2 windshield glass stoppers to the windshield glass as shown in the illustration.

      a 13.7 mm (0.539 in.) to 14.7 mm (0.579 in.)

      Note


      • Install the No. 2 windshield glass stopper after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

      • Make sure to install the No. 2 windshield glass stopper in the correct orientation.

      Tech Tips

      Only 2-piece type windshield glass stoppers are provided as supply parts. Use 2-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers as replacements even if 1-piece type No. 1 windshield glass stoppers were originally installed.

  4. INSTALL WINDSHIELD GLASS RETAINER


    1. Coat the application area of windshield glass retainer with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

      Align 2 new windshield glass retainers with the cutouts in the positions shown in the illustration and install them.

      Note

      Install the windshield glass retainer after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

  5. INSTALL WINDOW GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Coat the application area of window glass adhesive dam with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. When removing the peeling paper of a new windshield glass adhesive dam, make sure that it does not contact the adhesive surface.

      Note

      Install the windshield glass adhesive dam after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

    3. Install the window glass adhesive dam to the windshield glass as shown in the illustration.

  6. INSTALL WINDSHIELD OUTSIDE MOULDING


    1. Coat the application area of windshield outside moulding with Primer G.

      Note

      Do not apply too much Primer G.

    2. When removing the peeling paper of a new windshield outside moulding, make sure that it does not contact the adhesive surface.

      Install the windshield outside moulding to the windshield glass.

      Note

      Install the windshield outside moulding after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

  7. INSTALL WINDSHIELD GLASS


    1. A01MFID

      Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.


      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

    2. Windshield glass preliminary installation procedures.


      1. Install the suction cups to the windshield glass.

        *1 No.1 windshield glass stopper
        *2 No. 2 windshield glass stopper
        *3 Windshield glass retainer
        *4 Windshield glass

        Engage the No.1 windshield glass stopper and No.2 windshield glass stopper to temporarily place the windshield glass onto the vehicle body and set it so that the gap between the body and the upper portion and sides of the windshield glass is even.

        Note

        Securely engage the No. 1 windshield glass stopper and the No. 2 windshield glass stopper.

        *a Matchmark

        When using a new windshield glass:


        • Place matchmarks on the windshield glass sub-assembly and vehicle body at the locations indicated in the illustration.

      4. When reusing the windshield glass:


        • Check the position of the matchmarks and make adjustments.

      5. Remove the windshield glass.

    3. Apply Primer M to the exposed part of the vehicle body.

      Note


      • Do not apply too much Primer M.

      • Do not coat the adhesive with primer M.

      • Be careful when applying primer to the panel joints and spot welds.

    4. Using a brush or sponge, coat the application area of adhesive with primer G as shown in the illustration.

      Cut off the tip of the cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

    6. Load the sealer gun with the cartridge.

    7. Apply a bead of adhesive to the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Apply the adhesive after Primer G has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

    8. The antenna installation location (contact area) of the windshield glass is covered with protective tape, so fully remove the protective tape. (when using a new windshield glass assembly)

      Note

      When installing the windshield glass, do not allow adhesive to adhere to the antenna installation location.

    9. Install the windshield glass.

        Using suction cups, engage the No.1 windshield glass stopper and No.2 windshield glass stopper, position the windshield glass so that the matchmarks are aligned and install the windshield glass.

        Note


        • Install the windshield glass after Primer M on the vehicle body has been allowed to dry (approx. 3 min).

        • Check that the No.1 windshield glass stopper and No.2 windshield glass stopper are engaged to the vehicle body correctly.

      2. Lightly press the front surface of the windshield glass sub-assembly to ensure that the windshield glass is securely fit to the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22.0 lbf) or more.

      3. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

        Note

        Apply adhesive to the glass rim.

      4. Using a scraper, remove any excess or protruding adhesive.

      5. Hold the windshield glass in place securely with protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.

        Tech Tips

        Follow the instructions for each adhesive manufacturer or the corresponding owner's manual for the minimum amount of time necessary prior to driving the vehicle.

    10. Connect the connector.

  8. INSPECT FOR LEAK AND REPAIR


    1. After the adhesive has hardened, apply water from the outside of the vehicle. Check that no water leaks into the cabin.

    2. If water leaks into the cabin, allow the water to dry and add adhesive.

    3. Remove the protective tape.
