SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR(for Center Pillar) INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.

  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL NO. 2 SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY


    1. Check that the power switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      CAUTION:


      • B006JL1

        Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • A0026EN

        If this procedure is performed without disconnecting the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, the airbag may deploy even if an impact is applied only to the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly. Therefore, make sure that the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal is disconnected before performing this procedure.

    3. Before connecting the airbag connector, check that the position of the housing lock is correct as shown in the illustration.

    4. Engage the guide and hold the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly in place.

    5. Install the bolt.

      Torque:
      9.0 N*m  { 92 kgf*cm, 80 in.*lbf }

      Note


      • If the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly has been dropped, replace it with a new one.

      • When installing the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with or is not pinched between other parts.

      • Tighten the bolt while holding the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly because the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly guide is easily damaged.

    6. Connect the connector.


      1. While holding the CPA, be sure to engage the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly connector until are locked and check that the CPA is in original position (when looking, make sure that a click sound can be heard).

        • When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

        • Do not push down the upper part of the CPA shown in the illustration when connecting the airbag connector.

    7. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the No. 2 side airbag sensor assembly.

  2. INSTALL SIDE AIRBAG SENSOR ASSEMBLY


    1. Check that the power switch is off.

    2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

      CAUTION:


      • B006JL1

        Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • A0026EN

        If this procedure is performed without disconnecting the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal, the airbag may deploy even if an impact is applied only to the side airbag sensor assembly. Therefore, make sure that the cable from negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal is disconnected before performing this procedure.

    3. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.

    4. Engage the guide and hold the side airbag sensor assembly in place.

    5. Install the bolt.

      Torque:
      9.0 N*m  { 92 kgf*cm, 80 in.*lbf }

      Note


      • If the side airbag sensor assembly has been dropped, replace it was with a new one.

      • When installing the side airbag sensor assembly, be careful that the SRS wiring does not interfere with or is not pinched between other parts.

      • Tighten the bolt while holding the side airbag sensor assembly because the side airbag sensor assembly guide is easily damaged.

    6. Connect the connector.


      1. While holding the CPA, be sure to engage the connectors until they are locked and check that the CPA is in its original position (When locking, make sure that a click sound can be heard.)

    7. Check that there is no looseness in the installation parts of the side airbag assembly .

  10. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE AUXILIARY BATTERY TERMINAL


    1. Connect the cable to the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal.
