FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note


  • When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.

  • When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

PROCEDURE


  1. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT LH CLAMP

      *a Claw

      Using needle-nose pliers, disengage the claw engagement and separate the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot LH clamp from the front axle inboard joint boot as shown in the illustration.

  2. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT RH CLAMP

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  3. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT LH CLAMP

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot LH clamp.

  4. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT RH CLAMP

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  5. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure for the RH side and LH side.


    1. Separate the front axle inboard joint boot from the front drive inboard joint assembly.

  6. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY LH


    1. Remove the old grease from the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the front drive inboard joint assembly LH and front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    3. Remove the front drive inboard joint assembly LH from the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

    4. Secure the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH in a vise between aluminum plates.

      Note

      Do not overtighten the vise.

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the front drive inner shaft inner LH shaft snap ring from the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH and tripod joint.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    7. Using a brass bar and a hammer, tap out the tripod joint from the front drive outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

      Note


      • Do not tap the rollers.

      • Do not drop the tripod joint.

    8. Remove the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot LH clamp, front axle inboard joint boot and front axle inboard joint boot LH clamp.

  7. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE INBOARD JOINT ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

  8. SEPARATE FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT LH CLAMP


    1. A01MFWD

      Using pliers, grasp the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot LH clamp and move the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot LH clamp as shown in the illustration to separate the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot LH clamp from the front axle outboard joint boot.

  9. SEPARATE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT LH CLAMP

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot LH clamp.

  10. REMOVE FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT (for LH Side)


    1. Remove the front axle outboard joint boot LH clamp, front axle outboard joint boot and front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot LH clamp from the front axle outboard joint shaft assembly LH.

  11. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH


    1. A01MJQIN01

      Using SST and a press, remove the front drive shaft dust cover LH from the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

      Note

      Do not drop the front drive inboard joint assembly LH.

  12. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER RH
