CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Tech Tips
When scrapping vehicles equipped with a seat belt pretensioner or disposing of a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly (with seat belt pretensioner), always first activate the seat belt pretensioner in accordance with the procedures described below. If any abnormality occurs during activation of the seat belt pretensioner, contact the SERVICE DEPARTMENT of DISTRIBUTOR.
CAUTION:
Never dispose of a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly that has a non-activated pretensioner.
The seat belt pretensioner produces a loud, exploding sound when it activates. Perform the operation where it will not be a nuisance to nearby people.
When activating a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly (with seat belt pretensioner), stand at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly.
Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with an activated pretensioner.
Always wash your hands with water after completing the disposal.
Do not apply water to a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly that has an activated pretensioner.
Perform procedures in a place away from electrical interference.
When activating the seat belt pretensioner, always use the specified SST (SRS airbag deployment tool).
PROCEDURE
DISPOSE OF REAR NO. 1 SEAT OUTER BELT ASSEMBLY (When Installed in Vehicle)
CAUTION:
Use gloves and safety glasses when handling a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with a deployed pretensioner.
Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
Do not apply water, etc. to a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with a deployed pretensioner.
When deploying the seat belt pretensioner, always use the specified SST (SRS airbag deployment tool). Perform the operation in a place away from electrical interference.
Note
When disposing of a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with a pretensioner, never deploy the pretensioner in the customer's vehicle.
Never dispose of a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with a pretensioner that has not been deployed.
The seat belt pretensioner produces an exploding sound when it deploys, so perform the operation outdoors where it will not disturb local residents.
When deploying a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly (with a seat belt pretensioner), perform the operation at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly.
Be sure to follow the procedure listed below when deploying the seat belt pretensioner.
Check the function of SST.
CAUTION:
When deploying the seat belt pretensioner, always use the specified SST.
| *1 | Battery |
Connect the red clip of SST to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the battery negative (-) terminal.
Tech Tips
At this time, do not connect the yellow connector. It will be connected to the seat belt pretensioner in a later step.
Press the SST deployment switch and check that the LED of the SST deployment switch illuminates.
CAUTION:
If the LED is illuminated when the deployment switch is not pressed, SST may be malfunctioning. In this case, do not use the malfunctioning SST.
Disconnect the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly pretensioner connector.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
Remove the lower center pillar garnish.
Connect the floor anchor of the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with the bolt.
| *1 | Locking Button |
|
Protective Tape |
Using a screwdriver, pull out the locking button in the direction shown by the arrow in the illustration to release the lock, and disconnect the pretensioner connector as shown in the illustration.
Tech Tips
Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
CAUTION:
Do not deploy if the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is loose.
If deployed while the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is loose, the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly may fly off and cause serious injuries.
Do not deploy if the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is loose.
If deployed while the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is loose, the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly may wind back and cause serious injuries.
Connect SST.
Connect 2 SSTs, and then connect them to the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly pretensioner.
Note
To avoid damaging the SST connector and wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the pretensioner connector.
| *a | 10 m or more |
Move SST at least 10 m (33 ft.) away from the front of the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Do not deploy with all the doors and door windows open.
If deployed with all the doors and door windows open, dust and gas may enter the eyes or be breathed in.
Close all the doors and windows of the vehicle.
Note
Do not damage the SST wire harness.
Deploy the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly pretensioner.
Confirm that no one is inside the vehicle or within a 10 m (33 ft.) radius of the vehicle.
Connect the red clip of SST to the battery positive (+) terminal and the black clip to the negative (-) terminal.
Press the SST deployment switch to deploy the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly pretensioner.
Tech Tips
The seat belt pretensioner will deploy at the same time as the LED of SST illuminates.
CAUTION:
Do not perform this procedure indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured. Also, do not deploy SRS parts near residential areas.
If this procedure is performed indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured, unforeseen injuries may occur. Also, the deployment noise creates a nuisance to nearby residents.
Dispose of the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly.
Remove the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly and SST.
Place the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly in a plastic bag, tie the end tightly, and dispose of it in the same way as other general parts.
CAUTION:
The rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly becomes extremely hot when the pretensioner is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.
Do not apply water etc. to a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with a deployed pretensioner.
If water is applied to the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly immediately after deployment, burns may occur from the resulting steam.
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly.
If the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is touched without wearing safety glasses and gloves, hot parts may cause burns and dust may enter the eyes.
After removal, quickly seal the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly in a plastic bag.
Never dispose of a rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly with an undeployed pretensioner.
If an undeployed rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly is disposed of, and then deploys for any reason, unforeseen injuries may occur.
Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
Tech Tips
When scrapping a vehicle, deploy the rear No. 1 seat outer belt assembly pretensioners, and then scrap the vehicle with the deployed outer belt installed.
