STEERING PAD INSTALLATION

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (for Type A)

   
   

   1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

   2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      
      

      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.

      

   3. Support the horn button assembly with one hand.

   4. 

      *a	Connector Lock
      	Push

      Connect the airbag connector and lock the connector lock.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

   5. Connect the horn connector.

   6. Set the horn button assembly to the steering wheel assembly.

   7. Check that the airbag wire harness and horn wire harness are not pinched.

   8. 

      *a	Upper Pin
      *b	Lower Pin

      Press the horn button assembly with both hands to attach the 2 upper pins to the torsion spring.

   9. Press the horn button assembly with both hands to attach the lower pin to the torsion spring.

      Note

      After installation, try to pull the horn button assembly and check that the horn button assembly is securely installed.

2. INSTALL HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (for Type B)

   
   

   1. Check that the ignition switch is off.

   2. Check that the cable is disconnected from the negative (-) battery terminal.

      CAUTION:

      
      

      • Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.

      • If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.

      

   3. Support the horn button assembly with one hand.

   4. for Single Type:

      Connect the airbag connector and lock the connector lock.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

   5. for Dual Type:

      Connect the 2 airbag connectors and lock the 2 connector locks.

      Note

      When connecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

   6. Connect the horn connector.

      

      *A	for Single Type	*B	for Dual Type
      *a	Connector Lock	-	-
      	Push	-	-

   7. Set the horn button assembly to the steering wheel assembly.

   8. Check that the airbag wire harness and horn wire harness are not pinched.

   9. 

      *a	Upper Spring
      *b	Lower Spring

      Press the horn button assembly with both hands to attach the 2 upper springs.

   10. Press the horn button assembly with both hands to attach the lower spring.

       Note

       After installation, try to pull the horn button assembly and check that the horn button assembly is securely installed.

3. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (w/ Cover)

   
   

   1. 

      Attach the guide and claw to install the lower No. 2 steering wheel cover.

4. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (w/ Cover)

   
   

   1. 

      Attach the guide and claw to install the lower No. 3 steering wheel cover.

5. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL

   Note

   When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

6. INSPECT HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. With the horn button assembly installed to the vehicle, perform a visual check. If any of the defects mentioned below are found, replace the horn button assembly with a new one:

      Cuts, minute cracks or marked discoloration on the horn button assembly top surface or in the grooved portion.

   2. Make sure that the horn sounds.

      Tech Tips

      If the horn does not sound, inspect the horn system.
