REAR AXLE SHAFT REASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING LH


    1. A01L9KNN01

      Using SST and a press, press in a new rear axle shaft bearing LH.

  2. INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT OUTER OIL SEAL


    1. A01L82QN01

      Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new oil seal.

  3. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB BOLT LH


    1. A01L8HBC03
      *A for 2WD
      *B for 4WD and Pre-Runner
      *a Oil Drain Hole

      Install a new gasket and the deflector to the axle shaft.

      Tech Tips

      Align the 3 oil drain holes.

    2. for 2WD:

      Pass 5 new hub bolts through the axle hub.

    3. for 4WD and Pre-Runner:

      Pass 6 new hub bolts through the axle hub.

    4. Secure the axle shaft between aluminum plates in a vise.

    5. A01L8IVC01
      *1 Washer
      *2 Nut

      for 2WD:

      Temporarily install a washer and nut to each of the 5 rear axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration.

    6. A01LBHQC02
      *1 Washer
      *2 Nut

      for 4WD and Pre-Runner:

      Temporarily install a washer and nut to each of the 6 rear axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration.

    7. Install the rear axle hub bolts by tightening each nut.

    8. Remove the washer and nut from each rear axle hub bolt.

  4. INSTALL BACKING PLATE TO REAR AXLE HOUSING SETTING BOLT

      Position the backing plate on the bearing case.

    2. Using 2 socket wrenches and a press, press in 4 new backing plate to rear axle housing setting bolts.

  5. INSTALL REAR AXLE BEARING INNER RETAINER LH


    1. A01L8PPC06
      *a Tapered Surface
      *b Chamfered Surface

      Heat a new retainer to approximately 70 to 130°C (158 to 266°F).

    2. Install a new shaft washer and the retainer to the axle shaft as shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Install the shaft washer with its tapered surface facing downward.

      • Install the retainer with its chamfered surface facing downward.

    3. Using SST and a press, press in the axle shaft.

    4. Using a snap ring expander, install a new snap ring.
