FRONT DRIVE SHAFT ASSEMBLY DISASSEMBLY

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note


  • When using a vise, place aluminum plates between the part and vise.

  • When using a vise, do not overtighten it.

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    *a Claw Engagement

    1. Using needle-nose pliers, detach the claw engagement and disconnect the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration.

  2. DISCONNECT FRONT AXLE INBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

      Using pliers, grasp and move the front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration to disconnect it from the inboard joint boot.

  3. DISCONNECT INBOARD JOINT BOOT


    1. Disconnect the inboard joint boot from the inboard joint.

  4. REMOVE INBOARD JOINT

    1. Remove any old grease from the inboard joint.

    2. Put matchmarks on the inboard joint and front drive outboard joint assembly.

      Note

      Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

    3. Remove the inboard joint from the front drive outboard joint assembly.

      Using a snap ring expander, remove the snap ring.

      *a Matchmark

      Put matchmarks on the front drive outboard joint assembly and tripod joint.

      Note


      • Do not use a punch to make the matchmarks.

      • Only put a matchmark on the front side of the tripod joint, so as not to confuse the installation direction.

    6. Using a brass bar and hammer, remove the tripod joint from the front drive outboard joint assembly.

      Note


      • Do not tap the rollers.

      • Do not drop the tripod joint

    7. Remove the front No. 2 axle inboard joint boot clamp LH, inboard joint boot and front axle inboard joint boot clamp LH.

  5. DISCONNECT FRONT NO. 2 AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

      Using pliers, grasp and move the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH as shown in the illustration to disconnect it from the outboard joint boot.

  6. DISCONNECT FRONT AXLE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT CLAMP LH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH.

  7. REMOVE OUTBOARD JOINT BOOT


    1. Remove the front axle outboard joint boot clamp LH, outboard joint boot and front No. 2 axle outboard joint boot clamp LH from the front drive outboard joint assembly.

    2. Remove any old grease from the front drive outboard joint assembly.

  8. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE SHAFT DUST COVER LH

    1. Using SST and a press, remove the front drive shaft dust cover LH from the front drive inboard joint assembly.

  9. REMOVE FRONT AXLE HUB DUST SEAL

    1. Using a screwdriver and hammer, remove the front axle hub dust seal from the front drive outboard joint assembly.
