Tech Tips
Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
DISCONNECT REAR BRAKE SHOE RETURN SPRING
Disconnect the rear brake shoe return spring from the front brake shoe and rear brake shoe.
Note
Be careful not to damage the rear wheel cylinder boot.
DISCONNECT SHOE TENSION SPRING
Disconnect the shoe tension spring from the front brake shoe and rear brake shoe.
REMOVE FRONT BRAKE SHOE
Using SST, remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, pin and front brake shoe.
REMOVE PARKING BRAKE SHOE STRUT SET LH
Remove the parking brake shoe strut set from the rear brake shoe.
Note
Do not disassemble the strut set, and be careful not to damage or bend any of the components.
REMOVE REAR BRAKE SHOE
Using SST, remove the shoe hold down spring cup, shoe hold down spring, pin and rear brake shoe.
Using needle-nose pliers, disconnect the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly from the rear brake parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly.
REMOVE REAR BRAKE AUTOMATIC ADJUST LEVER LH
Remove the rear brake automatic adjust lever tension spring and rear brake automatic adjust lever LH.
REMOVE REAR BRAKE PARKING BRAKE SHOE LEVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

Remove in this Direction |
Remove the C-washer and rear brake parking brake shoe lever sub-assembly.
REMOVE REAR BRAKE WHEEL CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH
Using a union nut wrench, disconnect the brake line from the rear brake wheel cylinder assembly LH.
Remove the 2 bolts and rear brake wheel cylinder assembly LH from the backing plate.
REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG CAP
REMOVE REAR BRAKE DRUM BLEEDER PLUG
Remove the rear brake drum bleeder plug from the rear wheel brake cylinder assembly LH.
REMOVE REAR WHEEL CYLINDER CUP KIT
Remove the 2 rear wheel cylinder boots from the rear brake wheel cylinder.
Remove the 2 rear wheel cylinder pistons.
Remove the rear wheel cylinder cup from each wheel cylinder piston.
Remove the rear brake wheel cylinder compression spring from the rear brake wheel cylinder.
