FRONT BRAKE(for 16 inch Front Disc Brake 2WD) INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK BRAKE CYLINDER AND PISTON

    1. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring.

If necessary, replace the disc brake cylinder and disc brake piston.

  2. CHECK PAD LINING THICKNESS

    1. A01LF0Q

Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness.

      Standard thickness
      10.0 mm (0.394 in.)
      Minimum thickness
      1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)

If the pad lining thickness is equal to or less than the minimum, replace the pad.

  3. CHECK FRONT DISC BRAKE PAD SUPPORT PLATE

    1. Check the 4 plates as follows. If necessary, replace the plates.

      1. Use brake cleaner to clean the pad of the pad support plate and the surface of the plate that contacts the cylinder mounting. Inspect for deformation, cracks, rust and foreign matter that is difficult to remove.

      2. Use brake cleaner to clean the surface of the cylinder mounting that contacts the pad support plate. After installing the pad support plate to the cylinder mounting, inspect for looseness and deformation.

      3. After installing the pad, inspect if the pad falls off easily (due to the spring force of the pad support plate being insufficient).

  4. CHECK DISC THICKNESS

    1. A01LGA2

Using a micrometer, measure the front disc thickness.

      Standard thickness
      30.0 mm (1.181 in.)
      Minimum thickness
      27.0 mm (1.063 in.)

If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc.

  5. CHECK DISC RUNOUT

    1. Check the front axle hub bearing looseness (Click here ) and front axle hub runout Click here.

    2. Install the front disc with the 5 hub nuts.

      Torque:
      for Steel Wheel
      152 N*m  { 1550 kgf*cm, 112 ft.*lbf }
      for Aluminum Wheel
      121 N*m  { 1234 kgf*cm, 89 ft.*lbf }
    3. A01L9CT

Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10.0 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the front disc.

      Maximum disc runout
      0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

      Note

Do not place the magnetic portion of the dial indicator near the axle hub or speed sensor.

If the runout is more than the maximum, change the installation position of the disc so that runout is the smallest possible. If the runout is more than the maximum even when the installation position is changed, grind the disc. If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc.

    4. Remove the 5 hub nuts and front disc.
