FRONT BRAKE(for 4WD and Pre-Runner) INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK BRAKE CYLINDER AND PISTON


    1. Check the cylinder bore and piston for rust and scoring.

      If necessary, replace the disc brake cylinder assembly and front disc brake piston.

  2. CHECK PAD LINING THICKNESS

    1. Using a ruler, measure the pad lining thickness.

      Standard Thickness
      Item Specified Condition
      except 16 inch Front Disc Brake (Type B) 11.5 mm (0.453 in.)
      for 16 inch Front Disc Brake (Type B) 11.3 mm (0.445 in.)
      Minimum thickness
      1.0 mm (0.0394 in.)

      If the pad lining thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc brake pad.

  3. CHECK DISC THICKNESS

    1. Using a micrometer, measure the disc thickness.

      Standard Thickness
      Item Specified Condition
      for 15 inch Front Disc Brake 25.0 mm (0.984 in.)
      for 16 inch Front Disc Brake 28.0 mm (1.102 in.)
      Minimum Thickness
      Item Specified Condition
      for 15 inch Front Disc Brake 23.0 mm (0.906 in.)
      for 16 inch Front Disc Brake (Type A) 26.0 mm (1.024 in.)
      for 16 inch Front Disc Brake (Type B) 25.0 mm (0.984 in.)

      If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the front disc.

  4. CHECK DISC RUNOUT


    1. B0024LS

      Check the front axle hub bearing looseness (Click here ) and front axle hub runout Click here.

    2. Install the front disc with the 6 hub nuts.

      Torque:
      105 N*m  { 1071 kgf*cm, 77 ft.*lbf }

    3. Using a dial indicator, measure the disc runout 10.0 mm (0.394 in.) from the outer edge of the disc.

      Maximum disc runout
      0.05 mm (0.00197 in.)

      Note

      Do not place the magnetic portion of the dial indicator near the axle hub or speed sensor.

      If the runout is more than the maximum, change the installation position of the disc so that runout is the smallest possible. If the runout is more than the maximum even when the installation position is changed, grind the disc. If the disc thickness is less than the minimum, replace the disc.

    4. Remove the 6 hub nuts and front disc.
