PROCEDURE
ECU EXCHANGE
Note
After replacing the engine stop and start ECU, upload the number of starter operations and total number of engine starts to the new engine stop and start ECU using the GTS.
for Automatic Transmission:
When the engine stop and start ECU is replaced, check the electromagnetic oil pump.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / ECU Exchange.
Tester Display
---
ECU Exchange
According to the GTS display, download the previous status (the number of starter operations and total number of engine starts) from the old engine stop and start ECU to the GTS.
Replace the engine stop and start ECU.
According to the GTS display, upload the previous status (the number of starter operations and total number of engine starts) from the GTS to the new engine stop and start ECU.
CLEAR NUMBER OF STARTER OPERATIONS
Note
After the starter assembly is replaced, be sure to clear the number of starter operations stored in the engine stop and start ECU.
When the starter assembly is replaced, "ST NO. 1 relay" and "ST NO. 2 relay" must be also replaced.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Starter Exchange.
Tester Display
---
Starter Exchange
TOTAL NUMBER OF ENGINE STARTS RESET
Note
After the flywheel sub-assembly is replaced, be sure to clear the number of total number of engine starts stored in the engine stop and start ECU.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Total Number of Engine Starts Reset.
Tester Display
---
Total Number of Engine Starts Reset
RESET AIR CONDITIONING INFORMATION
Note
After replacing the engine stop and start ECU or air conditioning amplifier assembly, initialization of the air conditioning information in the engine stop and start ECU is necessary.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Reset A/C Information.
Tester Display
---
Reset A/C Information
LEARNING AIR CONDITIONING INFORMATION
Tech Tips
When initialization of the air conditioning information is complete, air conditioning information learning is automatically performed. If the learning cannot be performed properly, inspect the CAN communication system.
CLEAR THE ZERO POINT CALIBRATION DATA
Note
After replacing the engine stop and start ECU or airbag sensor assembly, perform deceleration sensor zero point clear and calibration.
Once the zero point is stored, it cannot be overwritten until the data is cleared. Be sure to perform zero point clear and calibration after replacing the airbag sensor assembly.
Turn the ignition switch off.
for Automatic Transmission:
Move the shift lever to P and apply the parking brake.
for Manual Transmission:
Move the shift lever to neutral and apply the parking brake.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Tech Tips
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Clear.
Tester Display
---
Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Clear
Note
When the deceleration sensor zero point is cleared, the system information stored in the engine stop and start ECU is also cleared. If the vehicle is driven for 5 seconds or more at 3 km/h (2 mph) or more in this condition, the engine stop and start ECU will store DTC P1589 and blink the stop and start cancel indicator light.
Turn the ignition switch off.
PERFORM ZERO POINT CALIBRATION OF THE DECELERATION SENSOR
Note
Park the vehicle on a level surface (grade: +/-1%). Do not shake the vehicle or open/close any of the doors during zero point calibration. To avoid vibration caused by the engine idling, do not start the engine.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
for Automatic Transmission:
Check that the shift lever is in P and apply the parking brake.
for Manual Transmission:
Move the shift lever to neutral and apply the parking brake.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Tech Tips
Do not start the engine.
Check that the parking brake is applied.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration.
Tester Display
---
Deceleration Sensor Zero Point Calibration
Tech Tips
If DTC P1589 is stored, the stop and start cancel indicator light will blink.
While keeping the vehicle stationary, follow the prompts on the GTS screen. Check that "Complete" is displayed on the GTS screen.
Note
If zero point calibration fails, perform the registration procedure again from "CLEAR THE ZERO POINT CALIBRATION DATA".
CLEAR THE INTEGRATED CURRENT VALUE
Tech Tips
After charging the battery, perform the integrated current value initialization.
If the Data List item "Integrated Current" indicates 0 or more, initialization is not necessary.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Utility / Integrated Current Value Initialization.
Tester Display
---
Integrated Current Value Initialization
SWITCH BATTERY TYPE
Note
When the ECM is replaced on a vehicle with a non-specified battery, it is necessary to perform battery type switching.
Check whether the battery is specified or not specified.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Tech Tips
Do not start the engine.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Stop and Start / Data List / Battery Type.
Tech Tips
Check the battery type (Specified/Other) recognized by the ECU.
Tester Display
---
Battery Type
If the battery installed does not match the battery recognized by the ECM, switch to the battery type for the installed battery.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / Switch Battery Type.
Tester Display
---
Switch Battery Type
CHECK ELECTROMAGNETIC OIL PUMP (for Automatic Transmission)
Note
When the electromagnetic oil pump or engine stop and start ECU is replaced, perform the "Electromagnetic Oil Pump" Active Test.
Tech Tips
This check is one of the final inspection items performed before returning the vehicle to the customer.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the ignition switch to ON.
Move the shift lever to P.
Turn the GTS on.
Perform the "Electromagnetic Oil Pump" Active Test for 2 seconds.
