GLOW PLUG ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK GLOW PLUG ASSEMBLY

    Note

    Turn the ignition switch off for 60 seconds before performing this inspection.


    1. Remove the grommet screw.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      Glow plug terminal - Body ground 20°C (68°F) Approx. 0.72 Ω

      If the result is not as specified, replace the glow plug assembly.

      Note


      • Be careful not to damage the glow plug pipes, as this may cause an open circuit or shorten the life of the glow plug assemblies.

      • Do not allow oil or diesel fuel to contact the glow plug assembly when cleaning it.

      • Clean any oil on the terminal and bakelite washer with a dry cloth.

      • Do not apply more than 11 V to the glow plug, as this may cause an open circuit.
