SHIFT LEVER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. INSPECT SHIFT LEVER POSITION


    1. When moving the shift lever from P to R with the ignition switch to ON and the brake pedal depressed, make sure that the shift lever moves smoothly and correctly to P.

    2. Make sure that the shifting lever moves smoothly and can be moderately operated.

    3. When starting the engine, make sure that the vehicle moves forward when shifting from N to D and moves rearward when shifting to R.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the park/neutral position switch assembly or adjust the transmission control cable assembly.

  2. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK OPERATION


    1. Move the shift lever to P.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Check that the shift lever cannot be moved from P to any other position.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON, depress the brake pedal, and check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the transmission floor shift assembly.

  3. INSPECT SHIFT LOCK RELEASE BUTTON OPERATION


    1. Turn the ignition switch off.

    2. Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped with protective tape, disengage the 2 claws to remove the shift lever cap from the transmission floor shift assembly.

      Note

      Be careful not to damage the shift lever cap and transmission floor shift assembly.

    3. When moving the shift lever with the shift lock release button pressed, check that the shift lever can be moved from P to any other position.

      If the operation is not as specified, inspect the transmission floor shift assembly.
