  1. REMOVE SPARK PLUG

  2. REMOVE ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE KNOCK SENSOR

    Click here

  4. REMOVE ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR

  5. REMOVE OIL FILLER CAP SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. Remove the oil filler cap sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the gasket from the oil filler cap sub-assembly.

  6. REMOVE PCV VALVE SUB-ASSEMBLY

  7. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Intake Side)

    Click here

  8. REMOVE CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (for Exhaust Side)

    Click here

  9. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

    Click here

  10. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side)

  11. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side)

  12. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  13. REMOVE NO. 1 VENTILATION CONNECTOR

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 ventilation connector from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

  14. REMOVE WATER INLET

    Click here

  15. REMOVE THERMOSTAT

    Click here

  16. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY

    Click here

  17. REMOVE OIL PAN COVER SILENCER

    Click here

  18. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  19. REMOVE OIL STRAINER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  20. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  21. REMOVE OIL PAN STUD BOLT

    Note

    If a oil pan stud bolt is deformed or its threads are damaged, replace it.

  22. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

  23. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  24. REMOVE ENGINE WATER PUMP ASSEMBLY

    Click here

  25. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL

  26. SET NO. 1 CYLINDER TO TDC/COMPRESSION

      *1 Crankshaft Pulley Set Key
      *a Timing Mark
      *b Approximately 13°
      *c Approximately 30°

      Temporarily install the crankshaft pulley bolt.

    2. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise so that the timing marks on the crankshaft timing gear and camshaft timing gears are as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      If the timing marks do not align, rotate the crankshaft clockwise again and align the timing marks.

    3. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt.

  27. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER CONNECTOR SUB-ASSEMBLY


    1. A01SARE

      Remove the 2 bolts and cylinder head cover connector sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the No. 2 camshaft bearing cap oil hole gasket and 3 No. 3 camshaft bearing cap oil hole gaskets from the No. 1 camshaft bearing cap.

  28. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN GUIDE

      *1 O-Ring

      Remove the 2 bolts, timing chain guide and O-ring.

  29. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN TENSIONER ASSEMBLY

    Note


    • When the No. 1 chain tensioner assembly is removed, do not rotate the crankshaft.

    • When the chain is removed and the camshaft needs to be rotated, rotate the crankshaft 90° to the right.

    1. Move the stopper plate upward to release the lock and push the plunger deep into the tensioner.

    2. Move the stopper plate downward to set the lock and insert a hexagon wrench into the stopper plate hole.

      Remove the bolt, nut, No. 1 chain tensioner assembly and gasket.

  30. REMOVE CHAIN TENSIONER SLIPPER

      Remove the bolt and chain tensioner slipper.

  31. REMOVE NO. 1 CHAIN VIBRATION DAMPER


    1. A01SA7Z

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 1 chain vibration damper.

  32. REMOVE CHAIN SUB-ASSEMBLY

  33. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT TIMING GEAR OR SPROCKET


    1. A01SDKA

      Remove the crankshaft timing gear or sprocket from the crankshaft.

  34. REMOVE CRANK POSITION SENSOR ROTOR


    1. A01SER8

      Remove the crank position sensor rotor from the crankshaft.

  35. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY SET KEY


    1. Remove the 2 crankshaft pulley set keys from the crankshaft.

  36. REMOVE OIL JET


    1. Remove the bolt, oil jet and gasket.

  37. REMOVE CAMSHAFT BEARING CAP

  39. REMOVE NO. 2 CAMSHAFT

    Click here

  40. REMOVE NO. 1 VALVE ROCKER ARM SUB-ASSEMBLY

  41. REMOVE VALVE LASH ADJUSTER ASSEMBLY

  42. REMOVE VALVE STEM CAP

  43. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY

  44. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEAR ASSEMBLY

  45. INSPECT CAMSHAFT TIMING EXHAUST GEAR ASSEMBLY

  49. REMOVE OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER


    1. A01SCYD

      Using an 8 mm hexagon wrench, remove the screw plug.

    2. Remove the oil control valve filter and gasket.

  50. REMOVE OIL FILTER SUB-ASSEMBLY

  51. REMOVE OIL FILTER UNION


    1. A01SAYY

      Using a 27 mm socket wrench, remove the oil filter union.

  52. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

      *1 Union Bolt
      *2 Nut
      *3 Oil Filter Bracket Straight Screw Plug

      Remove the union bolt, gasket and O-ring.

    2. Remove the nut, oil filter bracket sub-assembly and O-ring.

    3. Remove the oil filter bracket straight screw plug and gasket from the oil filter bracket sub-assembly.

  53. REMOVE REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL RETAINER


    1. Remove the 6 bolts.

      *a Protective Tape

      Using a screwdriver with its tip taped, pry out the rear engine oil seal retainer.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

  54. REMOVE REAR ENGINE OIL SEAL

      *a Protective Tape
      *b Wooden Blocks

      Place the rear engine oil seal retainer on wooden blocks.

    2. Using a screwdriver with its tip taped and a hammer, tap out the rear engine oil seal.

      Tech Tips

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
