CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
CAUTION:
To prevent injury due to contact with an operating fan and generator V belt or cooling fan, keep your hands and clothing away from the fan and generator V belt and cooling fans when working in the engine compartment with the engine running.
PROCEDURE
INSPECT V BELT
| *a | CORRECT |
| *b | INCORRECT |
| *c | Clearance |
Visually check the belt for cracks, oiliness or wear. Check that the belt does not touch the bottom of the pulley groove.
If necessary, replace the V belt.
| *1 | Vane Pump Pulley |
| *2 | Crankshaft Pulley |
|
Measuring Point for V belt Deflection |
Check the vane pump V belt deflection by pressing on the V belt at the point indicated in the illustration with 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) of force.
| Item | Specified Condition |
|---|---|
| New belt | 8 to 10 mm (0.315 to 0.393 in.) |
| Used belt | 10 to 15 mm (0.394 to 0.590 in.) |
If necessary, adjust the vane pump V belt deflection.
Reference:
Using a belt tension gauge, check the vane pump V belt tension.
| Item | Specified Condition |
|---|---|
| New belt | 441 to 539 N (45.0 to 55.0 kgf, 99.1 to 121.2 lbf) |
| Used belt | 245 to 343 N (25.0 to 34.9 kgf, 55.1 to 77.1 lbf) |
If the V belt tension is not as specified, adjust it.
Note
Check the vane pump V belt tension at the specified point.
When installing a new V belt, set its deflection value as specified.
Perform the V belt tension and deflection value check after idling the engine for a few minutes.
When using a belt tension gauge, confirm the accuracy first by using a master gauge.
When reinstalling a V belt used for over 5 minutes, perform the check based on the used deflection value.
When checking a V belt used for over 5 minutes, confirm the deflection value is within the specified range.

|
Measuring Point for V belt Deflection |
Check the cooler compressor V belt deflection by pressing on the V belt at the point indicated in the illustration with 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) of force.
| Item | Specified Condition |
|---|---|
| New belt | 11 to 15 mm (0.434 to 0.590 in.) |
| Used belt | 15 to 20 mm (0.591 to 0.787 in.) |
If necessary, adjust the cooler compressor V belt deflection.
Reference:
Using a belt tension gauge, check the cooler compressor V belt tension.
| Item | Specified Condition |
|---|---|
| New belt | 372 to 608 N (38.0 to 61.9 kgf, 83.7 to 136.6 lbf) |
| Used belt | 196 to 392 N (20.0 to 39.9 kgf, 44.1 to 88.1 lbf) |
If the V belt tension is not as specified, adjust it.
Note
Check the cooler compressor V belt tension at the specified point.
