CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

    Handling the urea injector set

  • The urea injector set is a precision instrument. Take necessary precautions for installation and shipping. Do not use the part if it has been struck or dropped.

  • If the urea solution remaining inside the urea injector set dries out, it may become unable to inject urea solution. Therefore, conduct urea tube with heater assembly installation and removal quickly.

  • If the urea solution dries out and deposition occurs, urea may cling to the O-ring of the pipe and cause seal problems. Therefore, clean the urea tube with heater assembly and intake port of the urea injector set with water before attaching them.

  • Perform this procedure in an environment where urea solution will not freeze.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P204B)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.

    4. Read the DTCs.

Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes

DTC P204B and other DTCs are output* B

      Tech Tips

*: If any other DTCs (CAN communication malfunctions or open/short circuits) are output, perform troubleshooting for those DTCs first.

  2. CHECK AROUND BOTTOM VEHICLE

    1. Check around the bottom of the vehicle.

      Tech Tips

If the urea solution dries on an object, deposition occurs and leaves behind a white powder.

      Area to check:

      • Areas connecting the urea pump and urea injector set.

      • Perforations in the urea tank sub-assembly.

      • Connectors not connected properly.

      • Clogging of the cooling fins of the urea injector set.

        Tech Tips

If the cooling fins are clogged with foreign matter, remove the foreign matter and clean the cooling fins.

    2. Repair any trouble areas.

  3. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (PRESSURE SENSOR CHECK)

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Reductant Pump Check (Backward).

    4. Perform the Active Test.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Tester Display
      Reductant Pump Check (Backward)
    5. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Reductant Purge / Data List / Diesel Exhaust / Reductant Pressure.

    6. After executing the Active Test, check the Reductant Pressure.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Active Test Display
      Reductant Purge
      Data List Display

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Reductant Filling (Pressure Keep) / Data List / Diesel Exhaust / Reductant Pressure.

    8. After executing the Active Test, check the Reductant Pressure.

      Tech Tips

Perform the Active Test until the pressure stabilizes (may take from 5 to 60 seconds).

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

  5. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs.

Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs
    4. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds or more.

    5. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    6. Wait for 5 seconds or more.

    7. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
