DESCRIPTION

The vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) is controlled by the ECM, and the opening and closing of the EGR cooler bypass valve is performed according to the vacuum applied by the vacuum pump.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

    1. Disconnect the vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) connector.

      Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE (FOR EGR BYPASS VALVE) - ECM)


    1. Disconnect the vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C96-2 - C57-16 (ECBV) Always Below 1 Ω
      C96-2 or C57-16 (ECBV) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Reconnect the vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) connector.

    5. Reconnect the ECM connector.

  4. REPLACE ECM


    1. Replace the ECM.

  5. REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR


    1. Repair or replace the harness or connector.

      Tech Tips

      If the voltage at the vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) connector is not 11 to 14 V, repair or replace the harness and connector between the vacuum switching valve assembly (for EGR bypass valve) and instrument panel junction block.

  6. CONFIRM WHETHER MALFUNCTION HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY REPAIRED


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTCs.


      Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON for 3 seconds.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    5. Confirm that the DTC is not output again.
