P0338 Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High Input Output voltage of crankshaft position sensor is higher than 4.7 V for 4 seconds (1 trip detection logic).

Tip:

  • If DTC P0337 or P0338 is stored, the following symptoms may appear:


    • Difficulty starting

    • Misfire

    • Combustion noise

    • Black smoke

    • White smoke

    • Lack of power

Reference: Inspection using an oscilloscope.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

When the sensor output voltage remains at less than 0.3 V, or higher than 4.7 V, the ECM stores a DTC.

After replacing the ECM, the new ECM needs registration (Click here ) and initialization (Click here).

Tip:

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. Click here

    CHECK DTC OUTPUT


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the GTS on.

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    4. Record any output DTC(s).


      1. Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Trouble Codes


    5. Clear the DTCs.


      1. Powertrain > Engine and ECT > Clear DTCs


    6. Turn the ignition switch off for 30 seconds or more.

    7. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.

    8. Turn the ignition switch to ON for 4 seconds or more.

    9. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.

    10. Check whether the DTC changes when the connector is disconnected and connected.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
