DESCRIPTION

To compensate for the change in injection volume and injection timing caused by the variance in the injection or supply pump assembly itself, a correction is made by using the data that is stored in the ROM in the injection pump correction unit.

  • When the ignition switch was turned ON, or when the ECM determines whether it is an error of RAM in ECM or not, the ECM conducts a single communication. If any one of the following status occurs in the communication, the ECM conducts one more communication. While the ECM is conducting the communication, if (a) is duplicated 20 times continuously, or if (b) is duplicated 20 times continuously, or if (c) is duplicated 2 times continuously, the ECM outputs the DTC P1670.


    1. There was a communication error when receiving data.

    2. Data sent from the injection pump correction unit does not match to the data received from the ECM.

    3. Data received from the pump ROM is not input in the period of 1024 msecond.

Although the determining process is completed without a problem, the ECM conducts the communication again if an undefined code is found while checking an identification code of the receiving data. If the undefined code was duplicated 20 times in a row, the ECM outputs the DTC.

Tech Tips

Read freeze frame data using the GTS. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - INJECTION PUMP CORRECTION UNIT)


    1. Disconnect the injection pump correction unit connector.

    2. Disconnect the ECM connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance
      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      C130-1 (DATA) - C127-29 (DATA) Always Below 1 Ω
      C130-4 (CLK) - C127-28 (CLK) Always Below 1 Ω
      C130-1 (DATA) or C127-29 (DATA) - Body ground and other terminals Always 10 kΩ or higher

  2. REPLACE INJECTION OR SUPPLY PUMP ASSEMBLY


    1. Replace the injection or supply pump assembly.

  3. READ DTC OUTPUT (DTC P1670 IS OUTPUT AGAIN)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Clear the DTC.


      Powertrain > Engine > Clear DTCs
    3. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.


      Powertrain > Engine > Trouble Codes
    5. Read the DTCs.
