DESCRIPTION

The EV control ECU performs control to conform to the vehicle usage conditions by sensing the atmospheric pressure by the atmospheric pressure sensor installed to the circuit board of the motor generator control ECU (MG ECU), which is built inside the inverter assembly with converter. The EV control ECU also detects deviations in the monitored values of the atmospheric pressure sensors, between the one inside the EV control ECU and the other one inside the FC control ECU and determines whether a malfunction has occurred.

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

Note

When the vehicle is parked with the power switch off, if the FC control ECU judges that the FC stack temperature will go below 0°C (32°F), it activates the FC air compressor, hydrogen pump and FC cooling water pump for a maximum of 180 seconds and drains water from the FC stack assembly. When performing inspection or repairs with the power switch off (not on (IG) or on (READY)), disconnect the cable from the negative (-) auxiliary battery terminal before performing work (If the auxiliary battery voltage is needed to conduct inspection, warm up the FC system beforehand).

Tech Tips

After the repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.


  1. When the power switch is turned on (IG), if the Data List (EV) item "Barometric Pressure (Smoothed Value)" and the Data List (FC) item "Smoothed Value of Barometric Pressure" are approximately the same value, the condition is normal.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK DTC OUTPUT (FC)


    1. After the repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / FC / Trouble Codes.


      Powertrain > FC > Trouble Codes
    4. Check for DTCs.

      Result

      P1D6F-450 may be stored due to a malfunction which causes the DTCs in the preceding table to be stored. In this case, first troubleshoot the output DTCs in the preceding table.

  3. READ VALUE USING GTS (BAROMETRIC PRESSURE (SMOOTHED VALUE))


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the power switch on (IG).

    3. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / EV / Data List / Barometric Pressure (Smoothed Value)


      Powertrain > EV > Data List
      Tester Display
      Barometric Pressure (Smoothed Value)
    4. Using the table, read the normal atmospheric pressure value for the applicable altitude.

      • Standard atmospheric pressure is approximately 101 kPa (15 psi).

      • For every 100 m (328 ft.) increase in altitude, atmospheric pressure drops by approximately 1 kPa (0.1 psi). This varies by weather.

    5. Compare the Smoothed Value of Barometric Pressure values in the Data List (EV) with the normal atmospheric value from the table.

      OK
      The difference between the value for Data List (EV) item "Barometric Pressure (Smoothed Value)" and the normal atmospheric pressure value is 10 kPa or less.

      Using the GTS Dual Data List function, the EV Data List items and FC Data List items can be checked simultaneously.
