Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.
The procedures listed below are for RHD vehicles.

CAUTION:
Do not perform this procedure indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured. Also, do not deploy SRS parts near residential areas.
If this procedure is performed indoors or on rough roads where safety cannot be ensured, unforeseen injuries may occur. Also, the deployment noise creates a nuisance to nearby residents.
Tech Tips
When scrapping a vehicle equipped with an SRS or disposing of the horn button assembly, be sure to deploy the airbag first in accordance with the procedure described below. If any abnormality occurs with the airbag deployment, contact the Service Dept. of the distributor.
DISPOSE OF HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (When Installed in Vehicle)
Note
When disposing of the horn button assembly, use an unneeded vehicle to deploy the airbag.
Be sure to observe the following procedure when deploying the airbag.
Tech Tips
Prepare a battery as the power source to deploy the airbag.
Check the function of SST.
CAUTION:
When deploying the airbag, always use the specified SST:

If the procedure is performed using unspecified SST, the airbag may deploy in an unforeseen situation and cause a serious accident.
Connect SST to the battery.
Connect the red clip of SST to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clip of SST to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Check the function of SST.
Press the SST activation switch and check that the LED of the SST activation switch comes on.
CAUTION:
Do not connect the SST connector to the airbag before inspecting SST.
If the airbag deploys due to malfunction of SST, it may cause a serious accident.
If the LED comes on when the activation switch is not being pressed, SST is malfunctioning. Replace SST.
Disconnect SST from the battery.
Refer to Precaution.
for Type A:
for Type B:
Remove the lower steering column cover.
Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal.
CAUTION:
Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to disable the SRS system.
If the airbag deploys for any reason, it may cause a serious accident.
Disconnect the airbag connector from the spiral cable with sensor sub-assembly.

Slide the slider to release the lock, and then disconnect the connector.
Note
When disconnecting any airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.
Install SST.
Connect the SST connector to the airbag connector of the spiral with cable sensor sub-assembly.
CAUTION:
Do not deploy if the steering wheel assembly and horn button assembly are loose.
If deployed while the steering wheel assembly and horn button assembly are loose, the steering wheel assembly and horn button assembly may fly off and cause serious injuries.
Note
To avoid damaging the SST connector or wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the twin lock.

Move SST at least 10 m (32.8 ft.) away from the front side window of the vehicle.
While maintaining sufficient clearance for the SST wire harness in the front side window, close all doors and windows of the vehicle.
CAUTION:
Do not deploy with all the doors and door windows open.
If deployed with all the doors and door windows open, dust and gas may enter the eyes or be breathed in.
Note
Take care not to damage the SST wire harness.
Connect the red clip of SST to the positive (+) battery terminal and the black clip of SST to the negative (-) battery terminal.
Deploy the airbag.
Check that no one is inside the vehicle or within a 10 m (32.8 ft.) radius of the vehicle.
Press the SST activation switch and deploy the airbag.
CAUTION:
Do not deploy with people inside or around the vehicle.
If deployed with people inside or around the vehicle, serious injuries may occur.
Tech Tips
The airbag is deployed as the LED of the SST activation switch comes on.
Remove the horn button assembly.
CAUTION:
The horn button assembly becomes extremely hot when the airbag is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.
Do not apply water etc. to a horn button assembly with a deployed airbag.
If water is applied to the horn button assembly immediately after deployment, burns may occur from the resulting steam.
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling a deployed horn button assembly.
If the horn button assembly is touched without wearing safety glasses and gloves, hot parts may cause burns and dust may enter the eyes.
After removal, quickly seal the horn button assembly in a plastic bag.
Dispose of the horn button assembly.
Place the horn button assembly in a plastic bag, tie it tightly and dispose of it according to local regulations.
CAUTION:
The horn button assembly becomes extremely hot when the airbag is deployed, so do not touch it for at least 30 minutes after deployment.
If not left alone for 30 minutes or more, burns may occur when touched.
Do not apply water etc. to a horn button assembly with a deployed airbag.
If water is applied to the horn button assembly immediately after deployment, burns may occur from the resulting steam.
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when handling a deployed horn button assembly.
If the horn button assembly is touched without wearing safety glasses and gloves, hot parts may cause burns and dust may enter the eyes.
Never dispose of a horn button assembly with an undeployed airbag.
If an undeployed horn button assembly is disposed of, and then deploys for any reason, unforeseen injuries may occur.
Always wash your hands with water after completing the operation.
DISPOSE OF HORN BUTTON ASSEMBLY (When not Installed in Vehicle)

Using braided wire, tie down the horn button assembly to an unneeded tire.

CAUTION:
If the wire harness is too thin or an alternative object is used to tie down the horn button assembly, it may snap when the airbag is deployed. Always use a wire for vehicle use with a cross-sectional area of at least 1.25 mm2(0.0019 in.2).
Tech Tips
To calculate the area of the cross-sectional area of stripped wire:
Area = 3.14 x (Diameter)2/ 4
After connecting the following SST to each other, connect them to the horn button assembly.

Wind 3 wires at least 2 times each around each of the pins.

Face the airbag deployment side of the horn button assembly upward on top of an unneeded tire and wheel set. Separately tie the left and right sides of the horn button assembly to the wheel through the hub nut holes. Position the SST connector so that it hangs downward through the hub hole of the wheel.
Note
The tire and wheel may be damaged by the airbag deployment, so use an unneeded tire and wheel.
Install SST.
Connect the SST connector.
Note
To avoid damaging the SST connector or wire harness, do not lock the secondary lock of the twin lock. Also, secure some slack for the SST wire harness inside the disc wheel.

Move SST at least 10 m (32.8 ft.) away from the airbag tied down to the wheel.

Cover the horn button assembly (using a cardboard box).
Cover the horn button assembly with a cardboard box.
Place weights on the cardboard box in 4 places totaling at least 190 N (19 kg, 42.7 lb).

Note
When dimension Y of the cardboard box exceeds the diameter of the wheel and tire to which the horn button assembly is tied, X should be the following size.
X = 460 mm (1.51 ft.) + width of tire
If a cardboard box smaller than the specified size is used, it may be broken by the shock from the airbag deployment.
Cover the horn button assembly (using tires).

Place at least 3 tires without wheels onto the wheel and tire to which the horn button assembly is tied.
Place a wheel and tire on top.

Note
The tires and wheel may be damaged by the airbag deployment, so use unneeded tires and wheels.
Do not place the SST connector under the tire because it could be damaged.
Tie the tires together with the 2 wires.
Deploy the airbag.
