Tech Tips
Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
INSTALL REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING LH
Using SST and a press, press in a new rear axle shaft bearing LH.
INSTALL REAR OUTER AXLE SHAFT OIL SEAL

Using SST and a hammer, tap in a new rear outer axle shaft oil seal.

INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB BOLT

Install a new brake drum oil deflector gasket LH and the brake drum oil deflector LH to the rear axle shaft LH.
Tech Tips
Align the 3 oil drain holes.
Pass 6 new rear axle hub bolts through the rear axle shaft LH.
Secure the rear axle shaft LH between aluminum plates in a vise.
Note
Do not overtighten the vise.

Temporarily install a plate washer and nut to each of the 6 rear axle hub bolts as shown in the illustration.
Install the 6 rear axle hub bolts by tightening each nut.
Remove the washer and nut from each rear axle hub bolt.
INSTALL BACKING PLATE TO REAR AXLE HOUSING SETTING BOLT
Position the backing plate on the bearing case.
Using 2 socket wrenches and a press, press in 4 new backing plate to rear axle housing setting bolts.
INSTALL REAR INNER AXLE BEARING RETAINER LH
Heat a new rear inner axle bearing retainer LH to approximately 70 to 130°C (158 to 266°F).
CAUTION:
Be careful not to burn yourself when the rear inner axle bearing retainer LH temperature is high.

Install a new rear axle shaft washer LH, a new rear inner axle bearing retainer LH, the backing plate and the rear axle bearing case LH to the rear axle shaft LH as shown in the illustration.
Note
Install the rear axle shaft washer LH with its tapered surface facing downward.
Install the rear inner axle bearing retainer LH with its chamfered surface facing downward.
Using SST and a press, press in the rear axle shaft LH.
Using a snap ring expander, install a new rear axle shaft snap ring LH.
