Tech Tips
Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.
The procedure listed below is for the LH side.
PROCEDURE
REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT LH
Using a snap ring expander, remove the rear axle shaft snap ring LH.

Install SST (rear axle shaft puller) and SST (rear axle shaft puller attachment) with the 4 bolts.
Tech Tips
Uniformly tighten the 4 SST bolts.
Secure SST to the rear axle bearing case LH with the 4 nuts.
Using SST and a press, remove the rear axle shaft LH from the rear axle bearing case LH.
Note
Be careful not to drop the rear axle shaft LH.
Tech Tips
If the rear axle shaft bearing LH (inner) remains on the rear axle shaft LH, grind the rear axle shaft bearing LH (inner) surface using a grinder, and then pry off the rear axle shaft bearing LH (inner) with a chisel and hammer.
Remove the 4 nuts and SST.
Remove the rear inner axle bearing retainer LH and rear axle shaft washer LH from the rear axle shaft bearing LH.
REMOVE BACKING PLATE TO REAR AXLE HOUSING SETTING BOLT
Temporarily install 4 nuts to the 4 backing plate to rear axle housing setting bolts.
Note
Do not use any nuts removed from the vehicle, as they may be damaged.
Using a hammer, tap out the 4 backing plate to rear axle housing setting bolts from the backing plate.
Remove the 4 nuts from the 4 backing plate to rear axle housing setting bolts.
Remove the rear axle bearing case LH from the backing plate.
REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB BOLT
Secure the rear axle shaft LH between aluminum plates in a vise.
Note
Do not overtighten the vise.
Using SST, remove the 6 rear axle hub bolts.
Note
Do not deform the brake drum oil deflector LH.
Make sure to align the groove of SST with the flange of the brake drum oil deflector LH.
Remove the brake drum oil deflector LH and brake drum oil deflector gasket LH from the rear axle shaft LH.
REMOVE REAR OUTER AXLE SHAFT OIL SEAL
Secure the rear axle bearing case LH between aluminum plates in a vise.
Note
Do not overtighten the vise.
Using SST, tap out the rear outer axle shaft oil seal.
Note
Be careful not to damage the rear axle bearing case LH.
REMOVE REAR AXLE SHAFT BEARING LH
Using SST and a press, press out the rear axle shaft bearing LH.
