FRONT AXLE HUB INSTALLATION

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

PROCEDURE


  1. INSTALL PLUG (for Pre-Runner)

      Using SST and a hammer, install a new plug.

  2. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB OIL SEAL LH


    1. B003J5Z

      Using a brass bar and hammer, tap in a new front axle hub oil seal LH.

  3. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB INNER BEARING LH (for 4WD)

      Using SST and a press, press a new front axle hub inner bearing LH into the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

      Note

      Insert 4 bolts into the bearing before installing the bearing to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

  4. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB INNER BEARING LH (for Pre-Runner)


    1. B003R97N01

      Using SST and a press, press a new front axle hub inner bearing LH into the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

      Note

      Insert 4 bolts into the bearing before installing the bearing to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

    2. B003M92N01

      Using SST, install a new adjusting nut.

      Torque:
      274 N*m  { 2794 kgf*cm, 202 ft.*lbf }
    3. B003PYXN03

      Using SST and a hammer, stake the adjusting nut.

  5. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for 4WD)

    *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

    1. Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

    2. Install the O-ring to the axle hub.

    3. Install the dust cover and front axle hub sub-assembly LH to the steering knuckle LH with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      Specified tightening torque
      80 N*m  { 816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips


      • Calculate the torque wrench reading when changing the fulcrum length of the torque wrench.

      • When using a ball joint lock nut wrench (fulcrum length of 149 mm (5.866 in.)) + torque wrench (fulcrum length of 380 mm (14.961 in.)): 57.5 N*m (586 kgf*cm, 42 ft.*lbf).

  6. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB SUB-ASSEMBLY LH (for Pre-Runner)


    1. B003S2BC01
      *a Torque Wrench Fulcrum Length

      Apply MP grease to a new O-ring.

    2. Install the O-ring to the axle hub.

    3. Install the dust cover and front axle hub sub-assembly LH to the steering knuckle LH with the 4 bolts.

      Torque:
      Specified tightening torque
      80 N*m  { 816 kgf*cm, 59 ft.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

  7. INSTALL FRONT AXLE SHAFT NUT LH (for 4WD)

    1. Clean the threaded parts on the drive shaft and front axle shaft nut LH using a non-residue solvent.

    2. Install the front axle shaft nut LH.

      Torque:
      235 N*m  { 2396 kgf*cm, 173 ft.*lbf }

    3. Install the adjusting cap and a new cotter pin.

      Note

      If the holes for the cotter pin are not aligned, tighten the nut an additional 60°.

  8. INSTALL FRONT AXLE HUB GREASE CAP LH (for 4WD)


    1. Install a new front axle hub grease cap LH to the front axle hub sub-assembly LH.

  9. INSTALL FRONT DISC

  10. CONNECT FRONT DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

  11. CONNECT FRONT SPEED SENSOR LH

    Click here

  12. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL

  13. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
