AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SYSTEM(for 1GR-FE) DATA LIST / ACTIVE TEST

  1. DATA LIST

    Tech Tips

Using the GTS to read the Data List allows the values or states of switches, sensors, actuators and other items to be read without removing any parts. This non-intrusive inspection can be very useful because intermittent conditions or signals may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Reading the Data List information early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time.

    Note

In the table below, the values listed under "Normal Condition" are reference values. Do not depend solely on these reference values when deciding whether a part is faulty or not.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List.

    7. According to the display on the GTS, read the Data List.

  2. ACTIVE TEST

    Tech Tips

Using the GTS to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.

    1. Warm up the engine.

    2. Turn the ignition switch off.

    3. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    4. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

    5. Turn the GTS on.

    6. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test.

    7. According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

Activate the Solenoid (SLT) Operates shift solenoid valve SLT to raise the line pressure.

      ON/OFF

      Tech Tips

      ON: No action (normal operation)

OFF: Line pressure up (When the Active Test of "Activate the Solenoid (SLT)" is performed, the ECM commands the shift solenoid valve SLT to turn off).

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Vehicle stopped

      • Engine idling

Activate the Lock Up Controls the shift solenoid valves SLU and SL to set the automatic transmission to the lock-up condition. ON/OFF

Can be used to check shift solenoid valves SLU and SL operation.

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Throttle valve opening angle: Less than 30%

      • Vehicle speed: 80 km/h (50 mph) or more

Activate the Solenoid (SL) Operates shift solenoid valve SL ON/OFF

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

Control the Shift Position Operates the shift solenoid valves to allow gears to be selected manually.
      • Press "→" button: Up-shift occurs

      • Press "←" button: Down-shift occurs

Can be used to check the operation of the shift solenoid valves.

Up-shifts and down-shifts should be performed consecutively. A 10 second interval is required between gear changes.

Do not down-shift at high speeds.

Doing so will damage the automatic transmission.

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • 50 km/h (31 mph) or less

Activate the Solenoid (SL1) Operates shift solenoid valve SL1 ON/OFF

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

Activate the Solenoid (SL2) Operates shift solenoid valve SL2 ON/OFF

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

Activate the Solenoid (SL3) Operates shift solenoid valve SL3 ON/OFF

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

Activate the Solenoid (SL4) Operates shift solenoid valve SL4 ON/OFF

        [Vehicle Condition]

      • Ignition switch ON

      • Engine stopped

      • Shift lever in P or N

The "Activate the Solenoid (SLT)" Active Test is performed to allow confirmation that the line pressure changes. The line pressure changes are confirmed using the same SST that is used for the Hydraulic Test.

      Tech Tips

Note that the pressure readings for the Active Test and Hydraulic Test are different.
