STARTER REASSEMBLY

PROCEDURE

1. INSTALL STARTER ARMATURE ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. 

      High-Temperature Grease

      Apply a light coat of high-temperature grease to the starter armature assembly as indicated by the arrow shown in the illustration, and then install the starter armature assembly to the starter yoke assembly.

2. INSTALL STARTER BRUSH HOLDER ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. Install the starter brush holder assembly.

   2. 

      Connect the 4 brushes to the starter brush holder assembly.

      
      

      1. Using a screwdriver, hold back the brush spring.

      2. Connect the brush to the starter brush holder assembly.

         Note

         Check that positive (+) lead wires are not grounded.

   3. Install a new O-ring in position on the starter yoke assembly.

   4. Install the starter commutator end frame assembly to the starter yoke assembly with the 2 screws.

      Torque:

      1.5 N*m  { 15 kgf*cm, 13 in.*lbf }

3. INSTALL MAGNET STARTER SWITCH ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. Apply high-temperature grease to the idle gear, steel ball, return spring, clutch roller and retainer.

   2. 

      Insert the steel ball into the starter clutch hole.

   3. Insert the return spring to the starter clutch hole.

   4. Install the starter clutch sub-assembly, idle gear, retainer and clutch roller to the starter drive housing assembly.

      *5	Clutch Roller	*6	Return Spring
      	High-Temperature Grease	-	-

   5. Install the magnet starter switch assembly to the starter drive housing assembly with the 2 screws.

      Torque:

      5.9 N*m  { 60 kgf*cm, 52 in.*lbf }

4. INSTALL STARTER YOKE ASSEMBLY

   
   

   1. Install a new O-ring to the groove of the starter yoke assembly.

   2. 

      *a	Groove
      *b	Claw

      Align the claw of the starter yoke assembly with the groove of the magnet starter switch assembly.

   3. Install the starter yoke assembly and starter commutator end frame together with the starter armature assembly to the magnet starter switch assembly with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:

      5.9 N*m  { 60 kgf*cm, 52 in.*lbf }

   4. Connect the lead wire to terminal C with the nut.

      Torque:

      5.9 N*m  { 60 kgf*cm, 52 in.*lbf }
