PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ADJUSTMENT

  • Use the same procedure for RHD and LHD vehicles.

  • The procedure listed below is for LHD vehicles.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL


    1. Pull the parking brake lever to fully engage the parking brake.

    2. Release the parking brake lever to disengage the parking brake.

    3. Slowly pull the parking brake lever all the way, and count the number of clicks.

      Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)
      for TMEE (AAV) Made
      7 to 9 clicks
      except TMEE (AAV) Made
      8 to 10 clicks

  2. REMOVE CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY

  3. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  4. ADJUST REAR DRUM BRAKE SHOE CLEARANCE (for TMEE (AAV) Made)

  5. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (for TMEE (AAV) Made)


    1. Completely release the parking brake lever.

    2. B003N0IC01
      *1 Lock Nut
      *2 Adjusting Nut

      Loosen the lock nut.

    3. Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is correct.

      Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)
      7 to 9 clicks

    4. Tighten the lock nut.

      Torque:
      5.2 N*m  { 53 kgf*cm, 46 in.*lbf }

      Tech Tips

      If the parking brake lever travel cannot be fully adjusted with this procedure, proceed to the adjust parking brake turn buckle procedure.

  6. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE LEVER TRAVEL (except TMEE (AAV) Made)


    1. Completely release the parking brake lever.

      *1 Lock Nut
      *2 Adjusting Nut

      Loosen the lock nut.

    3. Temporarily install the hub nuts to the hub bolts.

      Tech Tips

      Securely install the hub nuts to the rear disc.

    4. B003OXPC01
      B003OFB Expand
      B003QYY Contract

      Turn the shoe adjuster and expand the shoes until the disc locks.

    5. Turn and contract the shoe adjuster until the disc can rotate smoothly.

      Standard
      Returns 8 notches.

    6. Check that there is no brake drag against the shoe.

    7. Turn the adjusting nut until the parking brake lever travel is correct.

      Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)
      8 to 10 clicks

    8. Tighten the lock nut.

      Torque:
      5.2 N*m  { 53 kgf*cm, 46 in.*lbf }

    9. Operate the parking brake lever 3 to 4 times, and check the parking brake lever travel.

      Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)
      8 to 10 clicks

    10. Check that the parking brake does not drag.

    11. Remove the hub nuts from the hub bolts.

      Tech Tips

      If the parking brake lever travel cannot be fully adjusted with this procedure, proceed to the adjust parking brake turn buckle procedure.

  7. ADJUST PARKING BRAKE TURN BUCKLE


    1. B003OPFC01
      *1 Lock Nut
      *2 Parking Brake Turn Buckle

      Loosen the lock nut and turn the parking brake turn buckle until the lever travel is correct.

      Standard parking brake lever travel when pulled with a force of 200 N (20 kgf, 45 lbf)
      for TMEE (AAV) Made
      7 to 9 clicks
      except TMEE (AAV) Made
      8 to 10 clicks

    2. Tighten the lock nut.

      Torque:
      5.0 N*m  { 51 kgf*cm, 44 in.*lbf }

  8. INSPECT BRAKE WARNING LIGHT


    1. Operate the parking brake lever and check the illumination condition of the brake warning light.

      OK
      The brake warning light always illuminates at the first click.

  9. INSTALL CONSOLE BOX ASSEMBLY
