REAR DISC BRAKE PAD(for Rear Disc Brake) REPLACEMENT

Tech Tips


  • Use the same procedure for the RH and LH sides.

  • The procedure listed below is for the LH side.

Note

After replacing the disc brake pads, the clearance between the disc brake pads and rear discs becomes larger and the brake pedal feel becomes softer. Therefore, after replacing the disc brake pads, depress the brake pedal several times and check the clearance and brake pedal feel.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

  2. DRAIN BRAKE FLUID

    Note

    Wash off brake fluid immediately if it comes in contact with any painted surface.

  3. REMOVE DUST BOOT PROTECTOR LH

      Remove the 2 bolts and dust boot protector LH from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH.

  4. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH

      Remove the 2 cylinder slide pins from the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH.

    2. Remove the rear disc brake cylinder assembly LH from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  5. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD


    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake pads together with the rear disc brake anti-squeal shims from the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  6. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM


    1. Remove the 2 rear disc brake anti-squeal shims from the rear disc brake pads.

  7. REMOVE REAR DISC BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE


    1. Remove the rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate from the inner disc brake pad.

  8. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD WEAR INDICATOR PLATE


    1. Install the rear disc brake pad wear indicator plate to the inner side disc brake pad.

      Tech Tips

      Install the rear disc brake pad wear indicator facing downward.

  9. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE ANTI-SQUEAL SHIM


    1. Install the 2 rear disc brake anti-squeal shims on each rear disc brake pad.

      Note

      There should be no oil or grease on the friction surfaces of the brake pads and the rear disc.

  10. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE PAD

      Using SST, push back the rear disc brake piston.

      Note

      Do not forcibly install the piston into the rear disc brake cylinder.

    2. Install the 2 rear disc brake pads together with the rear disc brake anti-squeal shims to the rear disc brake cylinder mounting LH.

  11. INSTALL REAR DISC BRAKE CYLINDER ASSEMBLY LH


    1. B003KK5C01
      B003KT0 Lithium soap base glycol grease

      Apply a light coat of lithium soap base glycol grease to the sliding surfaces of the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins.

    2. Install the rear disc brake cylinder with the 2 rear disc brake cylinder slide pins.

      Torque:
      88.3 N*m  { 900 kgf*cm, 65 ft.*lbf }
    3. Depress the brake pedal several times.

  12. INSTALL DUST BOOT PROTECTOR LH


    1. Install the dust boot protector LH with the 2 bolts.

      Torque:
      7.9 N*m  { 81 kgf*cm, 70 in.*lbf }
  13. ADD BRAKE FLUID

  14. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
