FUEL SYSTEM ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE

  1. CHECK FOR FUEL PUMP OPERATION AND FUEL LEAK

    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

      Note

      Do not start the engine.

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump Speed / ON.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
      Tester Display
Control the Fuel Pump / Speed
    5. Check the fuel pump operation.

      1. Check for pressure in the fuel inlet tube from the fuel line. Check that the sound of fuel flowing in the fuel tank can be heard.

If there is no sound, check the instrument panel junction block, fuel pump, ECM and wiring connector.

    6. Disconnect the GTS from the DLC3.

    7. Inspect for fuel leaks.

      1. Check that there are no fuel leaks after performing maintenance anywhere on the system.

If there are fuel leaks, repair or replace parts as necessary.

  2. CHECK FUEL PRESSURE

    1. Check the battery voltage.

    2. Discharge the fuel system pressure.

    3. Disconnect the cable from negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

      • After turning the ignition switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work.

      • When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

Detach the No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assembly from the fuel filter assembly.

    5. Disconnect the No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assembly from the fuel filter assembly.

      *a SST (Hose)
      *b SST (Hose Band)
      *c SST (T Joint)
      *d SST (Pressure Gauge)
      *e SST (Hose Joint)
      *f SST (Fuel Tube Connector)

Install SST (pressure gauge) as shown in the illustration.

      SST

    7. Wipe off any gasoline.

    8. Connect the cable to the negative (-) battery terminal.

      Note

When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.

    9. Operate the fuel pump.

      1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to ON.

        Note

        Do not start the engine.

      3. Turn the GTS on.

      4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine / Active Test / Control the Fuel Pump Speed / ON.

Powertrain > Engine > Active Test
        Tester Display
Control the Fuel Pump / Speed
    10. Measure the fuel pressure.

      Standard fuel pressure
      281 to 287 kPa (2.87 to 2.93 kgf/cm2, 41 to 42 psi)

If the pressure is higher than the specification, replace the fuel pressure regulator assembly.

If the pressure is below the specification, check the fuel hoses and connections, fuel pump, fuel filter assembly and fuel pressure regulator assembly.

    11. Start the engine.

    12. Measure the fuel pressure.

      Standard fuel pressure
      281 to 287 kPa (2.87 to 2.93 kgf/cm2, 41 to 42 psi)

If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator assembly and fuel injector assemblies.

    13. Stop the engine.

    14. Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.

      Standard fuel pressure
      147 kPa (1.5 kgf/cm2, 21 psi) or higher

If the pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator assembly and fuel injector assembly.

    15. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal and carefully remove SST and the fuel tube connector to prevent gasoline from spraying.

    16. Connect the No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assembly to the fuel filter assembly.

    17. Attach the No. 1 fuel pipe sub-assembly to the fuel filter assembly.

    18. Check that there are no fuel leaks after performing maintenance anywhere on the system.

If there are fuel leaks, repair or replace parts as necessary.
