WIPER AND WASHER SYSTEM OPERATION CHECK

  1. CHECK RAIN SENSING FUNCTION (w/ Rain Sensor)

    1. The rain sensing function controls the wiping timing in accordance with the amount of rain detected when the AUTO switch (windshield wiper switch assembly) is on.

    2. This control is performed by the windshield wiper relay assembly to switch the wiper operation as shown in the following chart (Wiper Operation Chart) based on the amount of rain and vehicle speed.

      Tech Tips

A luminance detection function is provided to automatically change the rain sensitivity according to day or night.

      Wiper Operation Chart
Amount of rain While driving vehicle While vehicle is stopped
Large Continuous HI operation Continuous LO operation
↓↑ Continuous LO operation Continuous LO operation
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 0.6 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 0.8 seconds
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 1.2 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 1.6 seconds
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 2.1 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 3.1 seconds
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 3.5 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 5.4 seconds
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 5.9 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 9.7 seconds
↓↑ Stops intermittently approximately every 10.1 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 17.5 seconds
Small Stops intermittently approximately every 17.9 seconds Stops intermittently approximately every 32.7 seconds
      Not detected Stopped Stopped
  2. CHECK RAIN SENSOR SENSITIVITY LEVEL ADJUSTMENT FUNCTION (w/ Rain Sensor)

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. When the auto sensitivity adjustment switch is operated with the AUTO switch of the front wiper switch (windshield wiper switch assembly) set to ON, rain sensor sensitivity level adjustment can be performed and the wiper operation timing changes

  3. CHECK VEHICLE SPEED SENSING TYPE ADJUSTABLE INTERMITTENT WIPER CONTROL (w/o Rain Sensor)

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Turn the windshield wiper switch assembly to the INT position.

    3. Check that the intermittent operation interval changes from approximately 1.5 to 20 seconds according to the vehicle speed and the position of the intermittent time adjustment switch of the windshield wiper switch assembly.

  4. CHECK INTERMITTENT CONTROL FUNCTION

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Turns the windshield wiper switch assembly to the INT position.

    3. Check that the intermittent operation interval can be adjusted from approximately 2.5 seconds to approximately 20 seconds by operating the intermittent time adjustment switch.

  5. CHECK WASHER-LINKED WIPER WITH DRIP-PREVENTION FUNCTION

    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. With the wipers stopped or operating intermittently, turn the windshield wiper switch assembly from off to the AUTO position.

    3. Washer-linked Function:

When the washer switch (front) is turned on for approximately 0.5 seconds or more, washer fluid sprays and LO operation of the front wipers is performed simultaneously. After the washer switch (front) is turned off, check that LO operation of the front wipers is performed 3 times.

    4. Drip-prevention Function:

With the vehicle stopped (below approximately 4 km/h [2.5 mph]) and the front wipers not operating after washer-linked operation completes, check that the front wipers operate once and wipe off the washer fluid after approximately 3 seconds elapse.

  6. CHECK REAR WASHER-LINKED FUNCTION

    1. When the windshield wiper switch assembly (rear wiper control switch) is turned off, and then the washer switch (rear) is turned on within approximately 0.5 seconds or more, check that washer fluid sprays and the rear wiper operates simultaneously.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
