BACK DOOR GLASS INSTALLATION

PROCEDURE


  1. CLEAN BACK DOOR GLASS

      When reusing the back door glass:

      Using a scraper, remove the spacers, clips, adhesive and double-sided tape on the back door glass.

      Note

      Do not damage the back door glass.

    2. Clean the outer edges of the back door glass with non-residue solvent.

      Note

      Even if using a new back door glass, clean it with non-residue solvent.

  2. INSTALL BACK WINDOW OUTSIDE MOULDING


    1. Apply glass primer to the back door glass in the locations shown in the illustration.

      Area Measurement
      a 15.2 mm (0.5984 in.)
      b 12.3 mm (0.4843 in.)

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper and install a new back window outside moulding.

    3. Install the back window outside moulding to the back door glass in the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the back window outside moulding after primer has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  3. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS CLIP LH


    1. Apply glass primer to the back window glass clip LH installation area on the back door glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper and install a new back window glass clip LH.

      Install the back window glass clip LH to the back door glass in the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the back window glass clip LH after primer has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  4. INSTALL BACK WINDOW GLASS CLIP RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure as for the back window glass clip LH.

  5. INSTALL NO. 2 BACK DOOR GLASS SPACER


    1. Apply glass primer to the No. 2 back door glass spacer installation area on the back door glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper and install a new No. 2 back door glass spacer.

      Install the No. 2 back door glass spacer to the back door glass in the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the No. 2 back door glass spacer after primer has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  6. INSTALL NO. 1 BACK DOOR GLASS SPACER

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure as for the No. 2 back door glass spacer.

  7. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS ADHESIVE DAM


    1. Apply glass primer to the back door glass adhesive dam installation area of the back door glass.

      Note

      Do not apply too much primer.

    2. Remove the peeling paper and install a new back door glass adhesive dam.

      Install the back door glass adhesive dam to the back door glass in the location shown in the illustration.

      Note

      Install the back door glass adhesive dam after primer has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

  8. INSTALL BACK DOOR GLASS

      B006PCE Adhesive

      Clean and shape the contact surface of the vehicle body.


      1. On the contact surface of the vehicle body, use a knife to cut away excess adhesive as shown in the illustration.

        Tech Tips

        Leave as much adhesive on the vehicle body as possible.

        Note

        Be careful not to damage the vehicle body.

      2. Clean the contact surface of the vehicle body with cleaner.

        Tech Tips

        Even if all the adhesive has been removed, clean the vehicle body.

    2. Back door glass preliminary installation procedures.


      1. Install the suction cups to the back door glass.

      2. Temporarily place the back door glass onto the vehicle body and set it so that the gap between the body and the upper portion and sides of the back door glass is even.

        *a Matchmarks

        Place adhesive tape on the back door glass and body panel and use a pen to place matchmarks for installation (when using a new back door glass).

        Tech Tips

        When reusing a back door glass, check the position of the matchmarks and make adjustments.

      4. Remove the back door glass.

      5. Apply body primer to the exposed panel surface of the back door panel.

        Note


        • Do not apply too much primer.

        • Do not apply primer to the adhesive.

        • Be careful when applying primer to the panel joints and spot welds.

    3. Apply glass primer to the back door glass in the locations shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      If primer is applied to an area that is not specified, wipe off the primer with non-residue solvent before it dries.

      Note


      • Allow the primer to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Throw away any leftover primer.

      • Do not apply too much primer.

      Cut off the tip of a cartridge nozzle as shown in the illustration.

      Tech Tips

      After cutting off the tip, use all adhesive within the time written in the table below.

      1. Apply a bead of adhesive to the location shown in the illustration.

        Note

        Apply the adhesive after primer has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

    5. Load a sealer gun with the cartridge.

    6. Apply a bead of adhesive to the location shown in the illustration.

      Note


      • Allow the primer coating to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      • Check that the clips are attached to the vehicle body correctly.

      • Check the clearance between the vehicle body and glass.

    7. Install back door glass.

        *a Matchmarks

        Using suction cups, position the back door glass so that the matchmarks are aligned and install the back door glass.

        Note

        Install the back door glass after primer on the back door panel has been allowed to dry for 3 minutes or more.

      2. Lightly press the back door glass from outside the vehicle so that it is securely fit to the vehicle body.

        Tech Tips

        Press the glass with a force of 98 N (10 kgf, 22 lbf) or more.

      3. Using a scraper, remove any excess adhesive or apply as necessary.

        Tech Tips

        Apply adhesive up to the edge of the back door glass.

        Note

        Do not drive the vehicle within the time written in the table below.

      4. Remove any excess adhesive before it hardens.

      5. Hold the back door glass in place securely with protective tape or equivalent until the adhesive hardens.

      Attach the clamp and claw.

    9. Connect the connector and install the bolt.

      Torque:
      8.4 N*m  { 86 kgf*cm, 74 in.*lbf }
  9. CHECK FOR BACK DOOR GLASS


    1. Conduct a leak test after the adhesive has completely hardened.

    2. Seal any leaks with auto glass sealer.

    3. Remove any protective or adhesive tape.
