PARK / NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

PROCEDURE


  1. SECURE VEHICLE


    1. Fully apply the parking brake and chock a wheel.

      CAUTION:


      • Make sure to apply the parking brake and chock a wheel before performing this procedure.

      • If the vehicle is not secure and the shift lever is moved to N, the vehicle may suddenly move, possibly resulting in an accident or serious injury.

  2. INSPECT PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ASSEMBLY


    1. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    2. Depress the brake pedal and check that the engine starts when the shift lever is in N or P, but does not start in any other position.

    3. Check that the back-up light illuminates and the reverse warning buzzer sounds only when the shift lever is in R, but does not function in any other position.

      If a malfunction or failure is found, check the park/neutral position switch assembly for continuity.
