DESCRIPTION
While the engine is being cranked, battery voltage is applied to terminal STA of the TCM.
If the TCM detects the Starter Control (STA) signal while the vehicle is being driven, it determines that there is a malfunction in the STA circuit. The TCM then illuminates the MIL and stores this DTC.
This monitor runs when the vehicle is driven at 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for 20 seconds.

Tech Tips
The following troubleshooting procedure is based on the premise that the engine cranks normally. If the engine does not crank, proceed to the problem symptoms table.
Read freeze frame data using the GTS. The TCM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air/fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction.
After performing repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.
Drive the vehicle for 20 seconds or more under the following conditions:
Engine speed of 1000 rpm or more.
Vehicle speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more.
Check for DTCs again.
