DESCRIPTION

No. 3 ATF pressure switch is installed in the lock-up solenoid ATF output passage and is used to detect a malfunction in the lock-up solenoid.

  1. Lock-up is not operating.

  2. Both of the following conditions are met


    • The No. 3 ATF pressure switch is ON when lock-up does not occur.

    • Lock-up does not occur when the shift solenoid valve (SLU) is requested to turn off in the lock-up range.

  3. 1.2 seconds

  4. 2-trip detection logic


  • No. 3 ATF pressure switch (ATF temperature sensor assembly)

  • Transmission wire

  • TCM

MONITOR DESCRIPTION

The TCM illuminates the MIL and stores a DTC if it detects that the No. 3 ATF pressure switch is OFF with the lock-up solenoid ON or if it detects that the No. 3 ATF pressure switch is ON with the lock-up solenoid OFF.

Tech Tips

After performing repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.


  1. Perform the Lock-up Function inspection in Road Test.

    Click here

  2. Turn the engine switch off.

  3. Perform step (1) again.

  4. Check for DTCs again.

PROCEDURE


  1. CHECK OTHER DTC OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0989 OR P0990)


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).

    3. Turn the GTS on.

    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.


      Powertrain > ECT > Trouble Codes
    5. Read the DTCs using the GTS.

      Result
      Result Proceed to
      Only DTC P0990 is output A
      Only DTC P0989 is output B
      DTC P0989 or P0990 and other DTCs are output C

      Tech Tips

      If a solenoid is stuck OFF, DTCs for several solenoids including the malfunctioning solenoid will be stored.

  2. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE (SHORT TO GROUND)

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  3. CHECK ATF TEMPERATURE SENSOR ASSEMBLY (NO. 3 ATF PRESSURE SWITCH)


    1. Remove the valve body oil strainer assembly.

      Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor assembly connector.

    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  4. CHECK TRANSMISSION WIRE


    1. Remove the oil strainer assembly.

    3. Disconnect the ATF temperature sensor assembly connector.

    4. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  6. CHECK IF DTC OUTPUT RECURS


    1. Connect the GTS to the DLC3.

    2. Start the engine and turn the GTS on.

    3. Clear the DTCs.

      Write down the currently output DTCs before clearing them.

    4. Perform the monitor drive pattern.
