SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The shift solenoid valve SLT controls the transmission line pressure for smooth transmission operation based on signals from the throttle position sensor and vehicle speed sensor. The TCM adjusts the current to the shift solenoid valve SLT to control hydraulic line pressure coming from the primary regulator valve. Appropriate line pressure assures smooth shifting with varying engine outputs.

MONITOR DESCRIPTION
The TCM calculates the amount of clutch slip based on the turbine speed, output shaft speed, and gear ratio. If the amount of clutch slip exceeds a specified level, the TCM will illuminate the MIL and store this DTC.
If the shift solenoid valve SLT is stuck on, the line pressure and clutch engagement force will decrease.
Note
If driving continues under these conditions, clutches will burn out and the vehicle will no longer be drivable.
CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT
Note
Perform registration and/or initialization when parts related to the automatic transaxle are replaced.
Tech Tips
After performing repair, clear the DTCs and perform the following procedure to check that DTCs are not output.
Perform the D Position Shift Test inspection in Road Test.
Turn the engine switch off.
Perform step (1) again.
Check for DTCs again.
PROCEDURE
CHECK OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2714)
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Trouble Codes.
Read the DTCs using the GTS.

Tech Tips
If a solenoid is stuck ON, DTCs for several solenoids including the malfunctioning solenoid will be stored.

PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (ACTIVATE THE SOLENOID (SLT))
Note
Perform this test with the ATF (Automatic Transmission Fluid) at the normal operating temperature: 50 to 80°C (122 to 176°F)
Be careful to prevent the SST hose from contacting the exhaust pipe.
This test must be performed after checking and adjusting the engine.
Perform the test with the air conditioning off.
Tech Tips
Using the GTS to perform Active Tests allows relays, VSVs, actuators and other items to be operated without removing any parts. This non-intrusive functional inspection can be very useful because intermittent operation may be discovered before parts or wiring is disturbed. Performing Active Tests early in troubleshooting is one way to save diagnostic time. Data List information can be displayed while performing Active Tests.
Turn the engine switch off.
Lift the vehicle.
Remove the test plug on the front left side of the transaxle case and install SST.
Lower the vehicle.
Fully apply the parking brake and chock all 4 wheels.
Tech Tips
When the electric parking brake switch (combination switch assembly) is pulled to the lock side 2 times (2 lock operations), the maximum amount of braking force is applied.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Start the engine.
Warm up the ATF.
Measure the line pressure when the engine is idling.
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test / Activate the Solenoid (SLT).
According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test.
Measure the line pressure with SST.
| Tester Display | Measurement Item | Control Range | Diagnostic Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Activate the Solenoid (SLT) | Operates shift solenoid valve SLT to raise the line pressure | ON/OFF Tech Tips ON: No action (normal operation) OFF: Line pressure increases (When the Active Test of "Activate the Solenoid (SLT)" is performed, the TCM commands the shift solenoid valve SLT to turn off). |

Tech Tips
The pressure values measured performing this Active Test and the Hydraulic Test are different from each other.
Performing the Active Test "Activate the Solenoid (SLT)" allows the change in line pressure to be checked with SST installed to the automatic transaxle. The same SST is used for the Hydraulic Test.

PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING GTS (CONTROL THE SHIFT POSITION)
Note
This test should always be performed with at least 2 people.
Warm up the engine.
Turn the engine switch off.
Connect the GTS to the DLC3.
Turn the engine switch on (IG).
Turn the GTS on.
Enter the following menus: Powertrain / ECT / Active Test / Control the Shift Position.
According to the display on the GTS, perform the Active Test.
Tech Tips
Comparing the gear commanded by the Active Test with the actual gear enables confirmation of the problem.
| Tester Display | Measurement Item | Control Range | Diagnostic Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Control the Shift Position | Operates the shift solenoid valves to allow gears to be selected manually. |
|
Can be used to check the operation of the shift solenoid valves. Upshifts and downshifts should be performed consecutively. A 10-second interval is required between gear changes. Do not downshift at high speeds. Doing so will damage the automatic transaxle.
[Vehicle Condition] |
| Tester Display |
|---|
| Control the Shift Position |
Note
This Active Test can be performed when the vehicle is stopped.
When shifting gears using the Active Test, do not operate the accelerator pedal for 2 seconds before and after shifting gears.
Tech Tips
The gear commanded by the TCM is shown in the Data List / Shift Status display on the GTS.
Check the vehicle speed and gear when the engine speed is 1000 rpm.
Tech Tips
As the torque converter clutch has not engaged, it may be difficult to obtain the speeds specified for 4th, 5th, and 6th gear, however a difference of speed should still be evident following each gear change.

Tech Tips
*1: Neutral
*2: If the shift solenoid valve SLT is stuck on, the line pressure will be low. Therefore, the amount of torque that can be transmitted by each gear will be lower than the normal limit. When the engine power exceeds this limit, the engine speed will increase freely.
*3: When the shift solenoid valve SLT is stuck off, gear shifting will be normal.
