EXHAUST MANIFOLD REMOVAL

The necessary procedures (adjustment, calibration, initialization, or registration) that must be performed after parts are removed, installed, or replaced during the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) removal/installation are shown below.

PROCEDURE


  1. REMOVE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY (TWC: Rear Catalyst)

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust pipe or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.


    1. A01IIQC

      Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.

    2. A01IGJ1

      Remove the 4 bolts, 2 compression springs and front exhaust pipe assembly from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) and center exhaust pipe assembly (TWC: Rear Catalyst).

    3. Remove the 2 exhaust pipe gaskets from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) and front exhaust pipe assembly.

  2. REMOVE NO. 1 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.


    1. A01IHBA

      Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 exhaust manifold heat insulator from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst).

  3. REMOVE AIR FUEL RATIO SENSOR

  4. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

      Remove the bolt, nut and No. 2 manifold stay from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) and stiffening crankcase assembly.

  5. REMOVE MANIFOLD STAY

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

      Remove the bolt, nut and manifold stay from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) and stiffening crankcase assembly.

  6. REMOVE EXHAUST MANIFOLD CONVERTER SUB-ASSEMBLY (TWC: Front Catalyst)

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

      Remove the 5 nuts and exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst) from the cylinder head sub-assembly.

    2. A01IJJT

      Remove the exhaust manifold to head gasket from the cylinder head sub-assembly.

  7. REMOVE NO. 2 EXHAUST MANIFOLD HEAT INSULATOR

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.

      Remove the 2 bolts and No. 2 exhaust manifold heat insulator from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst).

  8. REMOVE NO. 1 MANIFOLD CONVERTER INSULATOR

    CAUTION:

    To prevent burns, do not touch the engine, exhaust manifold or other high temperature components while the engine is hot.


    1. A01IKME

      Remove the 4 bolts and No. 1 manifold converter insulator from the exhaust manifold converter sub-assembly (TWC: Front Catalyst).
