AIR CONDITIONING UNIT REMOVAL

CAUTION / NOTICE / HINT

PROCEDURE

1. RECOVER REFRIGERANT FROM REFRIGERATION SYSTEM

   
   

   1. for HFC-134a(R134a):

2. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT

   
   

   1. for 8AR-FTS:

      Click here

   2. for 3ZR-FAE:

3. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for 8AR-FTS)

   Click here

4. REMOVE NO. 2 CYLINDER HEAD COVER (for 3ZR-FAE)

   Click here

5. DISCONNECT AIRCONDITIONER TUBE AND ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY (for Sub-cool Accelerator)

   
   

   1. 

      Remove the bolt and rotate the hook connector as shown in the illustration.

   2. 

      Disconnect the air conditioner tube and accessory assembly.

   3. Remove the 2 O-rings from the air conditioner tube and accessory assembly.

      Note

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent the entry of moisture and foreign matter.

6. DISCONNECT SUCTION PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (except Sub-cool Accelerator)

   
   

   1. 

      Remove the bolt and rotate the hook connector as shown in the illustration.

   2. 

      Disconnect the suction pipe sub-assembly.

   3. Remove the O-ring from the suction pipe sub-assembly.

      Note

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent the entry of moisture and foreign matter.

7. DISCONNECT LIQUID PIPE SUB-ASSEMBLY (except Sub-cool Accelerator)

   
   

   1. 

      Disconnect the liquid pipe sub-assembly.

   2. Remove the O-ring from the liquid pipe sub-assembly.

      Note

      Seal the openings of the disconnected parts using vinyl tape to prevent the entry of moisture and foreign matter.

8. DISCONNECT HEATER WATER OUTLET HOSE A

   
   
   1. 

      *A	for 8AR-FTS
      *B	for 3ZR-FAE

      Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the heater water outlet hose A.

      Note

      
      

      • Do not apply excessive force to the water hose and heater water outlet hose A.

      • Prepare a drain pan or cloth in case the coolant leaks.

9. DISCONNECT WATER HOSE SUB-ASSEMBLY B

   
   
   1. 

      *A	for 8AR-FTS
      *B	for 3ZR-FAE

      Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and slide the clip to disconnect the water hose sub-assembly B.

      Note

      
      

      • Do not apply excessive force to the water hose and water hose sub-assembly B.

      • Prepare a drain pan or cloth in case the coolant leaks.

10. REMOVE LOWER INSTRUMENT PANEL

11. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY (for Manual Tilt and Manual Telescopic Steering Column)

13. REMOVE LOWER DEFROSTER NOZZLE ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the 6 claws and remove the lower defroster nozzle assembly.

14. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY LH

15. REMOVE FRONT SEAT ASSEMBLY RH

    Tech Tips

    Use the same procedure described for the LH side.

16. REMOVE REAR NO. 3 AIR DUCT

    
    

    1. 

       Using a clip remover, remove the 2 clips.

    2. Fold back the front floor carpet assembly far enough so that the rear No. 3 air duct and rear No. 2 air duct can be removed.

    3. 

       Using a clip remover, remove the clip.

    4. Detach the 2 claws and remove the rear No. 3 air duct.

17. REMOVE REAR NO. 2 AIR DUCT

    
    

    1. 

       Using a clip remover, remove the clip.

    2. Detach the 2 claws and remove the rear No. 2 air duct.

18. DISCONNECT DRAIN COOLER HOSE

    
    

    1. 

       Disconnect the drain cooler hose.

19. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the 3 claws and remove the No. 1 air duct.

       Note

       
       

       • When removing, do not crack or deform the upper heater case of the air conditioning radiator assembly.

       • If the No. 1 air duct is reused, it may fall off or abnormal noise may occur. Therefore, make sure to replace with a new one.

20. REMOVE NO. 2 AIR DUCT

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the clamp.

    2. Detach the 3 claws and remove the No. 2 air duct.

       Note

       
       

       • When removing, do not crack or deform the upper heater case of the air conditioning radiator assembly.

       • If the No. 2 air duct is reused, it may fall off or abnormal noise may occur. Therefore, make sure to replace with a new one.

21. REMOVE NO. 1 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the 4 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

    2. Remove the bolt, screw, 2 nuts and No. 1 instrument panel brace sub-assembly.

22. REMOVE NO. 2 INSTRUMENT PANEL BRACE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the 3 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.

    2. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground wire.

    3. Remove the bolt, screw, nut and No. 2 instrument panel brace sub-assembly.

23. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 AIR DUCT

    
    

    1. 

       Detach the 4 claws and remove the rear No. 1 air duct.

24. DISCONNECT INSTRUMENT PANEL WIRE

    
    

    1. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the 3 ground wires.

       

    2. Disconnect the connectors and detach the clamps.

    3. Remove the 3 nuts and disconnect the instrument panel junction block assembly.

    4. Remove the bolt and 2 nuts and disconnect the ECU integration box RH.

    5. Remove the bolts and disconnect the instrument panel wire.

25. REMOVE AIR DUCT ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. 

       Remove the 2 nuts and air duct assembly.

26. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT ASSEMBLY WITH AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. Remove the 7 bolts, nut and the instrument panel reinforcement assembly with air conditioning unit assembly.

       

27. REMOVE AIR CONDITIONING UNIT ASSEMBLY

    
    

    1. Remove the 3 bolts and the air conditioning unit assembly.
